I'll add to this by mentioning my favourite Toronto set show that was airing about 10 year ago - Being Erica. It's available for streaming on CBC Gem.

For Winnipeg I can only think of two shows set here which are Burden of Truth which is a pretty good CBC law drama and Less than Kind which was actually really funny though I haven't watched it in probably like ten years.

As an avid TV watcher, there's a few of shows which strongly inform my perceptions of the cities in which they take place in:

Curb your Enthusiasm - LA
Seinfeld - NYC even though it's filmed in LA
The Wire - Baltimore
The Sopranos - NJ
Portlandia - Portlandia
Begen - Copenhagen
House of Cards - DC

Sense8 was a city-lover's dream--so many on location aerials and skyline shots. Come to think of it, the Wachowskis' movies also tend to spotlight urban scenes a great deal more than most creators/directors.

Yeah, I sort of credit Married with Children and Family Matters with instigating my skyscraper nerdful ways. I clearly remember running to see both shows so I could see the skyline. It was probably silly or maybe not, but seeing the Sears Tower and John Hancock Center dominating Chicago's skyline and being able to point them out was big back then.

I only remember this because my Dad came back from Philadelphia with a stack of postcards and then he had us watch the intro to this show together--early skyscraper geek in the making. I think this might be a mashup of the show's intro over the years. Old Philly:

I remember that show and always loved the Skyline shot of Philly & the William Penn statue!

Cameron’s house (the modernist one) is actually in Highland Park though.

I'm pretty sure Live PD is the only show that has ever featured Greenville. Just look at this majestic beast:

Home Improvement was set in Royal Oak outside of Detroit.

AP Bio takes place in Toledo.

I Love Lucy and Who's the Boss both fed the image of Connecticut as a suburb of NYC.

And Maude was probably a decent 70's-era depiction of upper middle class liberal & Rockefeller Republican Westchester County.

It took place in Tuckahoe, an archetypal NY-area railroad suburb.

The Office obviously made Scranton, Pennsylvania a household name despite sometimes being painfully obvious that it was filmed in LA. They still included a decent amount of references for locals like Lake Wallenpaupack, the various pizza places, The Wilkes-Barre hockey team, etc.

^ The LA palm trees in the background of so many TV shows and movies ostensibly set in climates that could never support palms has become so common that I think Hollywood people just don't really care about trying to hide them anymore.

One of the biggest giveaways in TV shows and movies that a show is filmed in LA is the pink donut box. That's very much a California thing and when I see a pink donut box show up in a show ostensibly set in Chicago or something I immediately know they're on a backlot in LA.

San Francisco- The Streets of San Francisco of course. All I remember are those epic foot chase scenes with blazer jackets swinging left and right with the wind, and in rhythm with their strides.

I love that house. I want to see it in real life. Map it on Google. It looks like they built some giant subterranean bunker beneath the garage.I think a john hughes tour would be fun. Ive been to a few shooting locations and even ate the Italian Village. You can see it in the background when they come out of the parking garage.
