Pittsburgh celebrates Penguins, Gay Pride & Arts!

hello... it's me

soundtrack

Video Link

it's good times in the Paris of Appalachia these days... championship parades are a quad-monthly occurrence... asian/latin fusion restaurants buzz with energy into the night... Brandon has decided to stick around... and the upcoming G-20 summit will focus the intense glare of the global media... producing countless cliche-ridden but ultimately enthusiastic profiles of this city of many bridges situated amongst many lush hills

there were arts and gay festivals held simultaneously downtown... i milled about the semi-operational Point fountain a bit

one of National Geographic's "Top 10 Adventure Cities in America!"

everybody's happy

confluence!

Fort Duquesne... home to a long-vanquished French garrison

Michigan

a tot ambling along Fort Pitt... the beginnings of Anglo domination

Italian soccer players

a dramatic setting

Pittsburgh Pride 2009... the culminating day was a parade followed by musiq!

I was being lazy and missed most of the parade... but it's the people watching that are more interesting anyway

the goodie truck

Eric Himan rocks!

The Pittsburgh Passion is one of Pittsburgh's professional women's football teams... I attended a game a couple years ago and was astounded by the high level of play.

new construction and rehabilitation of old abounds in Downtown Pittsburgh

cooling the toes

it's a fun city

the next day there was a parade in honour of the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins! Here's me crossing the bridge on my way to the parade!

owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle

Game 4 hero Jordan Staal pointing at me!

Iceburgh on the hunt for Jean-Claude Van Damne

here's what we all came to see... the Prince of Wales Trophy! Woohoo... Eastern Conference Champs back-to-back! Also pictured: Bill Guerin

Head coach Disco Dan Bylsma... who arrived in the nick of time to transform an underachieving squad floundering in 10th place in mid-February into Stanley Cup champions!

Game 7 hero Maxime Talbot!

USS Hal Gill's daughter leading the way! We'll miss ya... have fun in Montreal! also pictured: Kris Letang

Game 6 hero... immortalized with those incredible blocks of Johan Franzen in front of the open net at the end of the game... my favorite Penguin... ROB SCUDERI (holding child)... I'm devastated that he left for the Kings... but they offered him a dump truck full of money... thanks for the memories, "The Piece"

Hail Satan! Miroslav Satan, Tyler Kennedy and what I can only assume is Tyler's mom... Satan had a poor season... and was demoted to the Wilkes-Barre Baby Penguins... but he came back during the playoffs and was a crucial component... Tyler Kennedy also had a great postseason

Brooks "Free Candy" Orpik

watching from rooftops

Elizabeth Forward High School marching band

Evgeni Malkin and his trophies!

Malkin's parents (at left) became Pittsburgh sports icons in their own right

OMG! There it is! Captain Sidney Crosby hoisting the Stanley Cup... accompanied by our amazing net-minder Marc-Andre Fleury! This is the third time Pittsburgh has won the Stanley Cup!

Captain Crosby led the Penguins heroically throughout the season!

Marc-Andre Fleury... champion!

a depressing denouement

view of buildings

Satan worshipers

after the parade... a quiet moment

Welcome back!

I assume you spelled honor as "honour" in honor (honour?) of the anglo domination of 1700's Pittsburgh?

Damn you, and your great view from atop the parking garage! My girlfriend and I got there too late to get a good spot up there. I was a block down from you though, across from the porn store and Engine Company #1 I'm sad to see your favorite player, The Piece, go as well You don't happen to follow ThePensBlog, do you?

Nice shots though, as always

You were out at pride? I was at the parade and drank the rest of the day away... You should have come over to Liberty! LOL

Excellent photothread as usual. I have a much different perspective of Pittsburgh having looked though your lense.

BTW, welcome back wherever you went. The place wasn't the same without you!!

I liked everything but the parade pictures for obvious and very bitter reasons. They rode in the back of pickup trucks?

I don't see Brian, Michael, Emmitt, Ted and Justin at the Pride Parade!

I had never really paid much attention to or knew much about Pittsburgh until the thread where people were comparing Tulsa and OKC to Pittsburgh and Philly. And after seeing these pics, Pittsburgh looks like a nice city.
