DD's Ultimate Denver Thread

This thread will contain pictures from Denver, which I have taken over the last
few years. As a result, some pictures are brand new; others are a few
years old. Enjoy.

The Denver skyline as seen from City Park with the snow-capped Rocky Mountains
as a backdrop.

View of some of the downtown buildings. Republic Plaza (Denver's tallest) to the left. The
tower of the City & County Building can be seen to the right.

View of downtown from the Civic Center Park.

Republic Plaza is the tallest building in Denver. It's 714 ft. (218 m.) tall and was completed
in 1984.

Brown Palace Hotel seen in the middle below is a famous, fashionable hotel in downtown Denver
from 1892. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Brown Palace Hotel in front of Republic Plaza.

Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is from 1912. Wells Fargo Center is seen in the
background. It is Denver's finest example of French Gothic architecture.

Downtown with Republic Plaza and Wells Fargo Center in the middle.

The top of Wells Fargo Center. This building is also called the Cash Register due to the shape
of the top.

Wells Fargo Center is currently the third tallest building in Denver. It was completed in 1983
and is 698 ft. (213 m.) tall.

The World Trade Center consists of two towers. The taller one is 357 ft. (109 m.) and the
shorter one is 325 ft. (99 m.). They were completed in 1980 and 1979, respectively.

Denver Union Station with train connections to
Winter Park ski resort, Chicago, and California.

Denver Performing Arts Complex.

The dancing sculptures outside the Denver Performing Arts Complex. The Colorado Convention Center
is seen in the background.

Colorado Convention Center. The street passes
under/through it.

The blue bear is peeping through the glass.

Central Presbyterian Church.

Alma Temple.

U.S. Mint.

Republic Plaza again.

Cherry Creek runs north to the Platte River.

Saint Paul Lutheran Church.

Denver Pavilions with a movie theater, stores, restaurants, and nightclubs.

Hard Rock Cafe on 16th St. Mall.

Daniels & Fisher Tower next to 16th Street Mall. It was once the tallest building in Denver.
The tower is inspired by St. Mark's Tower in Venice
(see the Vegas copy here: http://img426.imageshack.us/img426/5...netiansain.jpg).

To be continued...

Very nice photos. I especially liked the one form city park. That is one of my favorite views of the skyline.

Great pictures... To me, everything BUT the skyline and high-rises make Denver one of the great American cities.

I agree. Denver's skyline is full of non distinct buildings from the 80's and I often don't recognize it immediately unless the Rockies are in the background.

That's changing as we speak with the more distinct 4 Seasons tower currently rising and the One Lincoln Park tower nearing completion.

I just like Denver's neighborhoods and areas much more than its skyline. I'm not saying it's the worst skyline I've ever seen or anything.

At certain angles the skyline is decent looking, but I much prefer the street scenes and neighborhoods around downtown. Good pics btw

Great photos DenverDane. I saw a lot of those same buildings on my trip.

I love the city but tend to agree with the some of the other comments on the thread about the actual skyscrapers not being very interesting, but that too, is going to change soon. For now though it is the great neighborhoods and smaller buildings that make Denver a great city.

Thanks for all the nice responses! They make me keep going.

We start off the second part with a winter picture of Colorado State Capitol.

The Denver skyline at dawn as seen from Green Mountain west of Denver.

And the skyline from Red Rocks Park (you can actually also see the white
roof of the airport just next to Wells Fargo Center).

Bank One Tower is 363 ft. (111 m.) tall and was completed in 1980.

Temple Emanuel now known as the Temple Events Center.

Millennium Bridge.

If you don't want to walk up and down 16th St. Mall, you can take the bus for free.

There are also other means of transportation.

Denver Pavilions in the background and Paramount Theatre to the right.

The top of Daniels & Fisher Tower.

1999 Broadway is currently the fourth tallest tower in Denver. It's from 1985 and is
544 ft. (166 m.) tall.

Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Argonaut Aparments (and someone who's getting a ticket....)

Trinity United Methodist Church and Wells Fargo Center behind it.

...and from another angle.

The Rocky Mountain Shrine Consistory.

Denver Place South Tower.

Sheraton Hotel in the suburb of Lakewood.
