UPDATE: Thanks to some information from LikeHamilton and Kilgore Trout's keen observations, I've discovered this neighbourhood dates from the 1910's.

Yup, the Delta is where normally parallel King and Main cross. I just noticed I didn't even mention this was Hamilton (but it's not hard to guess!) though this could be any number of cities. Other than a few interesting and unusual shops, the retail in this neighbourhood has declined over time but the housing is as solid as ever. It would be awesome if the streetcars were still running.

well said. Living here really is a treat. Everyday I see something new, cool, unusual that I hadn't noticed before.
Sadly, we've carved up many of these great neighbourhoods with these mega, one-way highways catering to suburban commuters.
The Delta could boom back to life with great retail considering the absolutely solid residential neighbourhoods throughout the area. I have more hope for the north/south streets - Ottawa, Kenilworth and Parkdale than I do for King and Main, as long as the current crew at city hall exists.

Beautiful architecture and HUMAN - scaled development! Portland is hopefully expanding its new streetcar line, but the feds have trouble seeing the value of this type of transportation. These kind of neighborhoods can be re-created in the auto age, if we provide the right kind of infrastructure like streetcars -- maybe we'll never replicate the charm of the '20's, but we can at least make neighborhoods that encourage walking, not driving.

Is this area inside of Hamilton or outside of the city? It looks interesting.

^^It's right in the middle of the lower city, about 4km from downtown. The Beltline used to come through here when Hamilton had a streetcar system. The transit system here is still called the Hamilton Street Railway, but all the tracks are gone (Google map view of the area).

I've done tours of a couple other nicer Hamilton streetcar suburbs from the same era: Westdale and St. Clair.
