Actually, this is up to date information. The article you’re thinking of gave a start date of April 2018.

Meh! Nothing we didn't already know. The projects that are hanging by a thread are hopefully awaiting a resurrection.

And God knows I liked the previous designs on the Joske's tower, so if that one is in limbo, hopefully it's because cooler heads will prevail.

Main Plaza hotel, retail and office building

REM Hospitality wants to build a tower at Main Plaza with a 184-room Cambria hotel, office and retail space and a restaurant.

The local firm bought the land at 100 N. Main in 2016 and partner Anand Bhakta previously said REM was working on securing financing. REM didn’t respond to recent inquiries.

I want to see this site developed. Not sure if the same people own it but that piece of property deserves a nice development. They are currently using it for the construction next door.

Anybody got an update on this one? Nothing which states it's been cancelled, and given that it was expected to break ground literally years ago, I assumed they secured the financing. The Riverview Towers are still going through their construction. Any word on when this project is going to take place, if at all?

I know this particular project should probably be considered axed at this point but the lot was just sold (again) to another hotel investment group. I'm hoping whatever development pops up would be fairly similar to the original Cambria hotel proposal

Here is the article:
https://www.bizjournals.com/sananton...otel-land.html

"An affiliate of Atlanta hotel investor Peachtree Group has acquired a vacant lot at 100 N. Main Ave., across Commerce Street from the Cathedral of San Fernando. It's the second time the 0.39-acre parcel has been sold this year... Shortly after REM acquired the site in 2016, the Business Journal reported that the local company and Maryland-based Choice Hotels were planning an 18-story hotel and office mixed-use project branded under Choice's Cambria line. A year later, the partnership attempted to raise a portion of the hotel's development costs through crowdfunding...It's unclear if REM will be involved in the project going forward. The city of San Antonio's Development Services Department conducted a preliminary plan review for a hotel at the site with REM last month, according to city records."

Well speaking of- there is already a 10-story proposed hotel here now according to the Business journal: https://www.bizjournals.com/sananton...schematic.html
10 stories honestly feels a bit underwhelming , something closer to the scale of the adjacent building would've filled the gap that's there quite well. If this turns out to no longer be a Cambria Hotel I can post updates to a new thread

Also, there are no design details right now other than this ground floor schematic:

So it will be about as tall as the line where the bricks change colors next door.

Yes I would say maybe 1-3 floors above the line would line up with the top of a ten story hotel. I tried a polygon at 40ish meters (same as the new Kimpton Hotel) and it was about the same height as the Rand building behind it. Compared to the original Cambria proposal this is essentially a drop of 100 feet

One day this view will be blocked, but for now you get a pretty nice glimpse of the Courthouse when you pick up a chicken sandwich.

Oh wow, a giant piece of styrofoam on Main Plaza. Amazing. Like a shorter Embassy Suites. -_-

It's not the best design, but it's not the worst. At least it's not a blue glass box. Besides, you'll never see it from more than two blocks away, so it will have zero effect on the skyline. And if the rendering is accurate, it will have ground-level retail in a location that desperately needs it. A cafe across the street from a city park makes a lot of sense.

Hard to believe it's been 12 years since the fire that destroyed Poblanos there, and now three establishments are due to finally take it's place.

This looks like a hotel built in the 80s in downtown Austin that is now lost in skyscrapers.
Due to the location of the main plaza the design of this builidng is absolutely terrible. The main plaza needs to be wrap with beautiful architecture. This again is just settling, and the design is just as boring as the Hampton Inn on the next block.

There should at least be a feature on the wall facing the main plaza and they can keep the other side boring. That's just the end of the hallway corridor and walls for the rooms

Agreed. Just another mid looking hotel downtown.

Yeah this looks like an overgrown airport-adjacent hotel.
