I remember lining up for shows at the Fillmore in my late teens and 20s, snaking around the corner and waiting to be let in when it was freezing outside. That alley always seemed pretty sketch. I love the street wall created by these buildings, especially the alternating historic and contemporary. It makes the area really come alive. I bet it will look really cool at night, too, with the windows lit up.
^ Yea it looks like there's going to be precast panels.
I didn't post this earlier because the pic is kinda blurry and it's the least interesting part of the building. But this is the view from Grand Circus Park.
I thought this angle was kind of interesting because it kind of dwarfs the Fyfe Building. This building throughout its history has always bordered low-rise neighbors (or empty lots/parking lots). So it's kind of an end of an area that now a doubly taller building is right behind it. The glassy face and eventually company logo will also be an interesting contrast.
It's good just to get the vacant lot filled with some grade related retail along Woodward as well. Woodward now has continuous urban street frontage from the river to I75, which is a pretty important thing.
Now if they could do something with the parking lots on the opposite side of the street.. Hudson's Block is filling in a key hole further south, but the 4 blocks of parking lots along this part of Woodward is a huge issue in terms of making the I75 gap feel artificially larger between Little Caesars Arena and downtown.
