Tokyo Skytree

Canton Tower

Berliner Fernsehturm, Germany

And many many more throughout the world. The design of the one for the 78 casino proposal is lazy as fuck. Developers can and should try harder.

I totally disagree.

I like the proposed 78 tower far more than the examples you posted.

Give you a break about what?

The 78's observation tower is much better IMO. It's pure Chicago.

You are certainly free to disagree, but you ain't gonna change my mind.

Oh jeebus. It's hard to be polite sometimes. LOL and j/k. That thing isn't 99 degrees close to the Eifel tower.

That structure is a complete insult to intelligence.

Fak sakes. Put up a giant silo. It's an elevator shaft with a steel I-beam skirt. Its gross.

No offense to you Steely. Everyone's opinion is just that.

I do. And this was mine. This could potentially be a major decision for the city of Chicago. Lasting decades. Potentially centuries. This is the piece of shit you'd be proud of? They present this a flash in a pan. Like "click bait". But that's BS. This structure, as it stands now, and I realize it could change in design, but as it is now, is a complete joke. It borders on sad. I would be embarrassed by it in a city I have some much admiration of.

The traffic at all the sites will suck, so I mean my final votes are between the Tribune site and The 78. From an urban development infill perspective, the 78 is going to happen with or without a casino so picking the Tribune site would be a net gain for the city in that realm. I don't have a problem with either of the proposals though. And again, traffic is going to suck no matter what they pick.

The 78 proposal is the better looking and bolder proposal, but in typical current boring Chicago fashion they'll probably pick the understated but still decently nice Bally's proposal. It's also close to West Loop/Fulton Market and right near where Onni is going to build 2500 new units with more riverfront parks. Not far from Lincoln Yards. And they have no plans for increased public transit for anything. Traffic is going to suck, but I digress. At least some are on the river so they can utilize that. How cool would it be if you were a high roller and could pull up to a casino in your yacht?

The 78, from an employee perspective, gives more opportunities to various communities on the south and west side OTOH in a few different ways.

$50 says they pick Bally's though. It was also estimated at the highest potential economic output.

From the context of my last several posts in this thread, it should be clear to you that I don't see it as a piece of shit at all.

Quite the opposite; I think it's spectacular!

here is a tall bold slugger set vivid against the little soft observation towers

I hope the 78 casino gets chosen and I hope they build that awesome observation tower.

The 78 will have an underground red line station. If they pick the Tribune, they need to add an L station there.

Someone posted that it would not include an elevator or is that just fake news

Very few unhealthy people can walk over 1000 feet vertically.

Somone pls tell me this point of concern was either Joking or serious.

It would probably have to be the blue line. A station between Grand and Chicago. I don't know what the tunnel route looks like between those two stations but I guess a new tunnel would have to be added to connect them if there were to be a station near the Tribune site.

Yeah, if the money is where it's at, the Tribune site will be selected given it would be the largest in terms of gambling with 3600 positions.

The 78 would be the smallest in terms of gambling positions and tax revenue, so that does hurt its case despite the added observation tower and easier access to transit.

I just want to see the 78 get built out so bad, that land is screaming for development. At least in my mind having the casino there guarantees the neighborhood gets built.

And Lightfoot wasted how many months forming committees making sure that casino project would help underserved neighborhoods? Only to drop the thing just outside River North...

I will say that the Trib site also benefits from having the temporary casino building on the north side of Chicago Avenue pretty much ready to go as soon as they get a green light.
As much as I'd like to see Medinah Temple reopen its doors, a temp casino aint it.

It runs under Milwaukee Ave I think, so what you are saying wouldn't do much. If money wasnt an issue then I'd say to build a new subway like that connects to the blue line and goes up near this site, into goose Island (for the upcoming new 2500 units Onni is building) and then to Lincoln Yards.

You could start with just a few stops really

This is a great idea and seems like one of the best stretches the city could invest in upgraded service for, given all the new development nodes it hits. I'm not sure if Halsted is wide enough but BRT could be an option too?

^ The River District site would develop a bus-only transitway through the site, which would be a part of the larger North Branch Transitway from Union Station to Lincoln Yards
