One of my favorite and most-anticipated projects for the impact it’s going to have.

I can’t post pics right now, but the garage is starting to come down! Hunter Roberts has nearly the entire 1600 block of Sansom Street blocked off as well.

They’ve been at this for weeks and have only just begun making a dent. They built these parking garages to withstand a thermonuclear blastwave.

indeed, they are not built to be demolished. all that rebar and thick concrete is a nightmare for demo.

Most of that 1608-34 Sansom St site had been parking since at least 1934 (and sold gasoline too) and a garage since c. 1951, topped with one additional level c. 1970. It was once part of the late Harry Sley's Philadelphia parking empire.

Man, that reminds me of the abandoned (when I was out there) Studebaker factory in South Bend. Nothing to look at, but built to outlast the pyramids. Given the scale, it was too expensive to tear it down.

Garage is now completely down - just a massive pile of rubble and debris. Hopefully this can move into build-mode ASAP.
