lightfoot has picked up the tribune's endorsement.

she already has the sun-times' endorsement from the 1st round.

Editorial: For mayor of Chicago: Lori Lightfoot
Editorial Board
March 15, 2019

When she assumes leadership of a $9 billion government enterprise, the next mayor of Chicago could use a few months to settle into the job. Sorry, that’s not happening.

Mayor Next will be seated in mid-May. She’ll confront a chronic financial crisis. She’ll face the prospect of a violent summer. By July, she’ll be at the bargaining table with a hungry Chicago Teachers Union. And come September, she’ll be juggling the opening of Chicago Public Schools, plus the day-to-day demands of 50 aldermen and a looming, $270 million extra pension payment. For starters.

The candidate in the April 2 runoff election who has the most versatility to manage Chicago’s complexities — its financial struggles and City Hall corruption, its gentrifying neighborhoods and deserted ones, its yearning for population growth and for economic growth, its twin crises of crime and policing — that candidate is Lori Lightfoot. Today the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board endorses her and urges Chicagoans to make her their mayor.

Not surprising, but good nonetheless.

Has anyone aside from the goons at the CTU endorsed Preckwinkle? I'm loving this...

I was just hanging out with friends last night and met a fellow who is a "inclusive housing consultant", you know someone you'd figure is hyper liberal. He in fact is hyper liberal, but was gushing about Lori. Everyone else in the group jumped on the bandwagon and joined in the Lori love fest. They even brought up several of her most famous recent quotes like "I'm going to drive a stake through the heart of Aldermanic prerogative" and "my former colleagues at the FBI are about to hand down a whole lot more indictments".

Could this be our shot at a massively unifying true reform candidate who has the mandate and experience (former federal prosecutor) to take out the trash once and for all? Hot damn I hope she storms into city hall and starts bashing the doors in on all the scumbags and shining lights into all sorts of dark corners!

Also, Howard Tullman, the guy who used to run 1871 and now runs IIT's (or Illinois Tech as the kids call it) innovation and entrepreneurship school. Not sure how many minds that one is going to change.

Chuy Garcia endorsed Lightfoot over the weekend. I think the polls showing a Lightfoot blow out are going to be right.

Just saw that Jerry Joyce endorsed Lightfoot too. That's it folks, it is over. NW and SW sides with police and fire people will come out and vote against Prekwinkle.

Lightfoot is obviously highly likely to win.

The real question is, what kind of Mayor will she be? I hope she's not TOO progressive. Seems like she and Preckwinkle are trying to 'out-progressive' eachother in debates, because, after all, being progressive is the flavor of the week nowadays.

But at the end of the day, Chicago's entire future hinges on business and investment, not on the debate over transgenders using bathrooms and giving criminals as many rights as possible.

I hope she doesn't turn out to have the wrong instincts about this stuff. After all, we actually do not know much about her. Praying that she doesn't let us all down...

I completely agree. It is my biggest concern as well. I get the feeling that Lightfoot will be more moderate and take more opinions into consideration than Prekwinkle who is essentially a public employee union tool at this point.

Lori Lightfoot blasts homophobic flyers: 'Hate has no place in Chicago.'

https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/...318-story.html

We knew this would happen, sad but won't move the needle. Buried in the story is this:

"At the Monday news conference, Lightfoot received endorsements from Amalgamated Transit Union Locals 241 and 308, which represent CTA bus and train operators; Gas Workers Local 18007; Iron Workers District Council and Local 1; City College Contingent Labor Organizing Committee; IEA Region 67; International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 9; Sprinkler Fitters Local 281; United Steelworkers of America Local 9777; Teamster Local 705; and National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 11."

I like to think that you don't make partner at a law firm without understanding the importance of business.

Exactly, and this is why the Ramirez Rosas of the world don't like Lightfoot. She's not a "democratic socialist".

For sure. Unlike Preckwinkle, she actually has private sector experience. I'm hoping that has an impact

From today's Sun Times, apparently Preckwinkle's 37 year old son has had some issues with his neighbors from his Hyde Park condo:

https://chicago.suntimes.com/politic...bors-complain/

I found this little passage of interest:

Quote:
Kyle Preckwinkle and his wife previously rented an apartment in the 5400 block of South Cornell. Their landlord sued them three times from 2011 to 2014 for not paying rent, court records show.

Asked why the family was evicted from their last apartment several blocks away, Kyle Preckwinkle said, “We went into debt, never recovered . . . I’m not going to apologize for being poor.”

He also indicated they’ve fallen behind at their current unit paying assessment dues to the extent that the condo board weighed legal action.
Hmmmmm, being a deadbeat and not having any regard for your contracted financial obligations. I wonder if Kyle learned that from anyone?

I'm not supporting Preckwinkle, but I don't see why that is at all relevant. . . dirty laundry. . . move along. . .

preckwinkle has apparently picked up the much-coveted endorsement of todd stroger.
