Yeah there is nothing official about it, but the city does seem to want height peaks and mountains of towers around those peaks too...

That intrigues me now. I see no reason for limiting the height of the towers being constructed here and at One Yonge when they're both such massive projects.

Is that factual or are you just speculating? I'm curious as I haven't bothered to read up on this development.

Festival Tower being planned as the tallest peak in the Entertainment is ancient history. It has been irrelevant for a much longer time than it actually was relevant. The planning was actually to avoid the table top skyline that was subsequently developed (until 2019) and everyone dislikes. Which begs the question; is a supertall tabletop any better?

I don't have any proof, and I'm speculating.

After many years, there is still no tower taller than TIFF in that area, but numerous proposals were cut down to a metre or 2 shorter than it, and many are now built or U/C... Something similar seems to be happening around One Yonge. It's just an observation...

But there are taller tower approved with one already in site prep.

Festival's height has defined the neighbourhood but not in the way you think it has. It hasn't led to shorter towers. It has led to much taller buildings and the overall tabletop look. The original zone with the 157 metre limit was quite small. It certainly didn't extend down towards Bisha or the Mercer Street twins as observers claim through the heights of those buildings. Festival's height is just the trendsetter, the solid defense used against the fear of losing section 37 contributions that allowed developers to push taller buildings in areas zoned much lower than 157 metres through.

Context is everything. You're concluding reductions in height always on planning by which you're implying that planning aren't real supporters of development and developers are always reasonable with their initial applications. Of course. We've been through this before. I'm not going to beat that horse after this.

The phase currently u/c isnt that bad but the taller phases are absolute abominations.

I didnt know we could get buildings that look worse than the concrete bunkers on the water but somehow they managed.

They do! Problem is all the towers look around the same height. Nothing stands out. I guess that's by design, but why?

Should this not be moved to U/C, or has is yet to reach SSP's standard?
