I have nothing against tram in medium city but in Paris, the tram is used by the local politian (City of Paris, and regional council) as a way to build faster a less expensive metro.
The T6 and T7 are all old metro extension project transformed in tram project.
It may be seem better than nothing but in reality they have a lower capacity and strongly proves to be ineficient few year after.

The Grand Paris Express project only come because the former president Sarkozy came with this projet, few months before the head of region said that a subway ring in suburbs was not necessary.
It been over a decade that we have a bad transpotation policy, it looks good on media but in reality it is desatrous.

Is Grand Paris part of the RER network or the Metro network? Will it be operated by SNCF or RATP?

In my opinion, it will be part of the metro.
For the company, I don't know, it can also be neither of both.

Woah! Every single station will have transfers to other rail transit!
I also notice that none of the other lines cross it more than once ('cept for A, but that's two different branches so it doesn't count). I like it, I like it a lot.

btw - thanks for keeping this thread going, Minato Ku. It's made me want to visit Paris way more than I did before

How much staffing is there on the RER? I've heard people talk about conductors on the RER, but I can't tell if those are actual conductors or drivers (conducteurs, damn those false friends). How many employees are there per RER train - 1 or 2?

There's at least a (single) driver per train and probably a whole team of switchmen per line. That's my guess. Some of our colleagues here may be better aware.
And rail maintenance is a daily costly work, I'm pretty sure about that.
But it's worth the efforts.

To clarify, I'm talking about on-board employees, rather than station staff, maintenance workers, etc. It comes from a debate within New York about eliminating conductors.

I don't remember any conductors on the RER, and I've ridden several times. IIRC the entire system is faregate-controlled, so there's no need for conductors unless you're enforcing security.

It is not very visible in the previous picture but Épinay Villetaneuse is a station served by suburban trains from Gare du Nord, .
Épinay Villetaneuse will provide a transfer between both line.
In blue, it is where will run the Tangentielle Nord.

There is a train every 3 minutes between Épinay Villetaneuse and Gare du Nord (Central Paris) in rush hours.

Saint-Denis - Epinay - Villetaneuse

Work in Épinay-sur-Seine

With the tramway and the construction of a new mall, the center of Épinay-sur-Seine is completely under the work.

The 3 existing lines are extended + 5 new ones currently developed.

However, Minato made some fair criticism about such an extensive use of LRT in greater Paris. The capacity of those systems might well be proven too short, because ridership is real big around here.
Besides, I think there's a couple of guided light transit systems in there (French: tramway sur pneumatiques, literally pneumatic trams), the same kind as those of Nancy, eastern France and Caen, Normandy and I vaguely read that people weren't satisfied at all over there. Can you confirm, Minato? Which lines are tramway sur pneumatiques? That might be annoying, right?
The planned Grand Paris system alone is actually bigger than these lighter things, automated heavy rail I think, large capacity.

Edit: yep, the T6 line will be pneumatic. Vehicles will be manufactured by a business from the region of Alsace (Lohr Industrie) instead of Bombardier that disappointed people in Caen and Nancy.

Exactly it is Translhor like in Clermont-Ferrand. The T5 and T6 will use this technology.
Anyway even Translhor is disappointing and have several issues.

It is a strong lobbying of the company on suburban mayors and the regional autority responsables that lead to this choice rather than a reasoned comparison.
The RATP was against it.

A new station located in the northeastern side of the inner city, it should open in december 2015.

Can you explain what's exactly involved in building this station? Wikipedia tells me the cost of the project is 130 million Euros, which is well more than what it costs to add an above-ground infill station in the US, otherwise a much higher-construction cost country than France.
