Looks like the market street power plant is getting a new owner finally, the river district proposal. I really liked their proposal too, so curious to see what they have planned for the power plant since that wasn't originally included.

I thought the River District looked very strong and adding the power plant will only help. I don't think they know yet what they plan to do with it, but it adds another layer to the development's potential and one less abandoned dilapidated venue to overshadow anything they do.

I'm not very convinced here about the Woodward/AEG proposal. Its a bit vague on phases and Tiger Hammond went after that, almost to the point it almost hijacked the round of questions. I'm a bit concerned we end up with a glorified amphitheater and nothing else years in. What I also don't like about the Woodward proposal is it focuses way too heavily on visitors for concerts or conventions, where as the River District wants to gear towards people actually living in New Orleans and not just people in town for a convention or the like.

River Proposal far stronger on paper, IMO and they sailed through the questioning. They also mentioned Target as a potential tenant.

I'm with you on that. I like their incorporating of office space and recruiting tech companies to come so it's not just a bunch of hotels and what not. A target or ikea or something there would make a killing. I hope River gets it.

New Orleans is crying out for modern class A office space. Startups and tech companies aren't going to the stuffy old high rises on Poydras or suburban office space in Metairie or the North Shore. That might be fine for traditional law firms and financial services type companies, but I feel this type of modern mixed use setup is going to be much more conducive to a live, work, play setup close to the core like the River District. I can't say I'm expecting a f500 HQ, but something that can attract a cluster of decent tech jobs I don't think is unrealistic.

Does anyone know what construction is going on in New Orleans East on I-10 around the Michoud exit? My friend Chris told me there’s major construction going on for almost a mile. He said it looks like they’re widening the interstate. I can’t find anything on the Louisiana Dept. of Transportation’s website. Thanks!

After watching the meeting today, the first proposal (River District) is hands down the better option. They are aiming for a true live/work/play neighborhood which is exactly what is needed for the development to work. The city does not need another tourist attraction that is little used except by convention goers or for the occasional concert.

The state is replacing two of the bridges on I-10. No widening of the interstate is planned in that area.

I agree its not even close. The design and programming is just perfect and with the addition of market street property the neighborhood can be truly tied into to the rest of the citys grid.

Replacing the bridges or resurfacing the bridges?

Great news the River district team has been selected by the convention center to be partners for the new neighborhood.

Really excited about the Louisiana civil rights museum and their second phase with the 750,000 sq ft office tower to attract tech companies.

Good to see they went with the better option. Looking forward to watching the transformation of that part of the riverfront over the next few years.

Looks like the RTA chose the Basin Street transit station option. My fantasy would be for the facade of the train station that was once there to be rebuilt.

“Within the CBD, a new Basin Street hub will serve as an off-street stopping point for multiple buses, many of which had for years converged on North Rampart and Canal streets. That building will also offer a break center for drivers and bathrooms for the public. The RTA hopes to build the $20.5 million hub with grant money.”

Do we know when and how much of Market Street they are closing on? Im sure the act of sale may have had a predication of their selection being part of them going to closing. Now that thats out of the way, Im assuming they will move forward on closing.

Does anyone know or have an idea on what’s happening at the huge plot of land between Crowder Blvd. and Read Blvd. in New Orleans East. I saw in the middle of the pandemic last year they cleared the land and last week I saw a few construction trucks on the site and the for sale sign is no longer fronting the I-10 service road.

Not sure but given the location my guess is something housing oriented with connections to either HANO or the LHFA or both.

Caesars expected to acquire naming rights for iconic Superdome, no name yet: report

When the New Orleans Saints suit up for their home games this fall, they'll play in the same building in which they've played in for decades, but the name of the building itself will be different.

The Saints and Caesars Entertainment, Inc. are nearing the finish line for a 20-year agreement for the naming rights to the iconic stadium, The Athletic's Jeff Duncan reported Wednesday.

The Mercedes-Benz Superdome will be no longer as of July 2021 due to the expiring naming rights deal, but the new name of the building has not yet been set, according to the Athletic.

If the Superdome is named after the parent company or any of its affiliated casinos, such as Harrah's, it would be the first NFL stadium to be named for a casino.

This is a great fit imo with ceasars expansion in N.O.

I think the Caesars Superdome works well (makes zero sense for them to name it after anything else)... cant really change the Superdome portion of the name since its way too iconic of a name
