Hot on the heels of Pinewood Toronto's Phase 2 construction start, this:
First Studio Toronto (which is in Markham lol) TV and Film production and post-production (incl. visual effects) on 20 acres - Quadrangle - Spring 2021 start
Plans have now increased to 800,000 square feet with 20 sound stages including the largest “Super Stage” in North America, which at 80,000 square feet, dwarfs the present largest on the continent - Pinewood Toronto’s
Mega-Stage which is 46,000 sq ft (First Studio’s Stage 2 is also larger @50,000 sq ft).
Durham Live (Pickering)
Follow up for my earlier post: some recent construction pics of the first phase of the 240-acre development (casino, performing arts centre, film studio, hotels, restaurants and convention centre).
263 Adelaide Street West - 157m - 47s - Lanterra - Quadrangle(?)
Lanterra purchased this project/property nearly a year ago and just released a ‘teaser’ rendering of the lower floors of the re-designed tower. Not sure if it’s still a rental build or if Quadrangle is still the AoR.
55 Mercer - 155.5m - 47s - CentreCourt - IBI Group - demolition begins soon
Demolition is scheduled for this month of the former “Wayne Gretzky’s” which closed its doors in October. Excavation/shoring scheduled to begin February 2021.
A little screenshot of the project location (looking east) from my future render*. Centre of pic, immediately left of the taller 488 University in blue.
Canada Square draft master-plan - November 23rd community meeting - Oxford - Pelli Clarke Pelli, Hariri Pontarini.
Exciting peek at the early master-plan, including 5 mixed-use towers from 160m to 255m, a 10,500 sq ft community centre and 2 hectares of parks and open space. 60,000 square metres of office use.
Timeline would see re-zoning and subsequent applications from 2021 to late 2022 with construction start as early as late 2022 but likely early 2023.
I really like the subtle curvature of the tiered tapers on the two western towers. However, I think the heights of all the towers are too similar. I want the northern of the two western towers to be about half the height, and the southern one to be about 3/4 height, with the subtracted floors added to the two tallest towers along Yonge Street.
Looks good but I feel like I've seen them before somewhere.
It's a discussion document for an eventual master-plan so "placeholders" is the logical assumption.
But given Pelli and HPA's architectural pedigrees, there may have been a bit more of an infusion of 'design' direction' at work here. Just hope those 2 firms also become AoRs on the final designs as well.

I'm surprised nobody at UT has commented about the Canada Square proposal...
They are too busy discussing the Rogers Centre/SkyDome demo and replacement, despite the fact that the Globe & Mail/other media stories were quickly torpedoed since those plans are on hold.
One useful comment on the early Canada Square plan suggested it was 'nice... for downtown Brampton'.
