That roadside view is going to be so, so much cooler in a few years.

You do realize that road is in downtown, right? Big buildings get built. Views tend to go or change with that. It's part of it. It will create a unique canyon view looking south on San Antonio St., especially once the post office block and The Republic (hopefully) get developed.

I don't think the homes around San Antonio and 7th will go anywhere, but the marriage of the old and new creates a neat urban fabric, in my opinion.

I believe at least a couple of those are historic landmarks. My dad's law office used to be in one of them.

Also, I think /u/lonewolf is talking about that view specifically -- which in a year or so, will be 99% blocked by a blank parking podium wall.

Sure, a podium wall, but a podium wall with 800 feet of curtain wall glass above it, just a few dozen feet from singe family homes.

That's cool - they're beautiful homes/offices, for sure.

It will be a view of the back of the massive parking garage. For the view of the actual tower to be seen by people in those lovely Victorian era homes would have to go outside and bend their necks 90 degrees to even see it. Just keeping it 100... I'm excited about this tower but when you look at the placement, the back side of 6X will be the least interesting to look at and will shade those great Live Oaks especially in the winter months. The view south is now a view to the southwest which is a nice view of the Independent and West End towers.

bullseye. it's a nice tower. but pick any nice tower and you typically have to be a thousand feet away to appreciate it.

otoh it will block out the afternoon sun for those homes.

i like the view from that spot and I took a photo before they got started on 2nd floor of 6xg.

I would be shocked if any of those are SFH. They are likely all law offices.

Generally that is correct, however there have been times when I would park on that street before the pandemic at night and I would see either a single person or a couple of people sitting on the front porch of one of the houses, other times there would be a dog running around in the front yard area. So I don't know if at least one of the houses either has an apartment element or maybe a combined office and residence.

I think this thing is going up rather quickly relative to its size. It gives me hope that once they get done with the podium, it will be making an impact on the skyline before the end of the fall.

Its pretty hard to fathom we still have a squat garage, a surface parking lot and an abandoned post office within a few blocks of our tallest building.

That barely even looks like Austin. Fantastic.
