I was downtown today and noticed a new taco place. (New to me, no idea how long this place has actually been open). It's called "fire & spice" and it's on donald street just south of Broadway.

Had the birria tacos. Birria is kind of like shredded beef and they give you some beef broth to dip the tacos in. You can also buy the birria soup. Bit expensive for what you get, the tacos were kind of small but they were good. Would probably go back if i'm in the area and in the mood for tacos.

Correct there was a dispute with D'Jays and Superior Management back in 2011 about parking access as the lot lines were not defined. Superior also had a dispute with the Bank of Montreal over parking when they had a branch at 3330 Portage just east of D'Jays.

I can't find the results on the internet currently but the bank parking went to court.

Apparently like D'Jays the bank had a parking agreement with the previous mall owners but nobody could find it, so Superior said no paper no parking no matter how long you had been using it.

Bank of Montreal relocated a number of years back from the disputed site to the former Unicity mall site.

The pet groomer currently in the former BMO branch building probably doesn't have the same customer parking requirements as the branch did

Just had lunch at Barakas on Main. Best shawarma in the city IMO. There are still a few places I haven't tried but so far this is the one I have liked the most. Generous portions, always fresh and their pita is really good.

After I ate i drove down scotia street down to Cathedral ave. I really like the Luxton area. That area has some of the nicest old homes I have seen in Winnipeg.

Sorry for the off topic.

^ Baraka Pita is awesome.. I've had a lot of good shawarma in Winnipeg, but Baraka is the only place where I've had GREAT shawarma here.

Been going there since day 1 when the dad came here from Calgary (I think). The lentil soup and spinach pie are outstanding!
Incredibly popular spot.

The only downside is that you can only buy them in threes or sixes (even though their containers only hold two or six, which leaves you holding two containers for an order of three, I hope they change this), which costs ~$15 or ~$30 per order. I feel like being able to order twos would be better for take-out, dates, and lowering the price of entry.
They've now changed to four for $14 or six for $22, and have boxes that neatly fit four or six.

Been wanting to try since I kept seeing them show up on instagram. Just got back from Mexico and had them. Pretty good! Though Al Pastor is better!

Agreed - wish they had any sort of info about their menu online or on their social media accounts (other than the obvious coffee and wine)...

That’s what they have right now during the soft launch, coffee during the day, wine in the evenings.
