Work continues at the north entrance. Additional light poles appear to have been installed recently.

East side of base of PAC seems to almost if not completely clad in black granite.

Compared to earlier in 2022 and in 2021, nighttime lighting on PAC is more continuous across the floors rather than limited to horizontal stripes across one floor.

Still no official, definite date of when in 2023 the PAC is expected to be finished and open. theperelman.org website still shows an expected completion date in the 1st quarter of 2023.

There are currently job openings listed for the PAC:
https://boards.greenhouse.io/therona...mingartscenter

This bit of information also appears on the nyc.gov website regarding the preliminary community meeting board agenda for January 2023:

Quote:
Financial District area

251 Fulton Street/1 Liberty Plaza, World Trade Center Performing Arts Center Inc, application for a new application and temporary retail permit for full service liquor license - Resolution
251 Fulton Street is the portion of Fulton Street adjacent to the PAC. That means the east plaza between One WTC and the PAC might officially be known as 1 Liberty Plaza (not to be confused with the building One Liberty Plaza).

Take a look at some of the latest progress at the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center, including some stunning marble detail as captured by Joe Woolhead. The façade installation is nearing completion, and is composed of 4,896 panels of heavily veined marble!

Apologies if this has been talked about in this thread but how close to the perimeter of the structure does the IRT tunnel come and what measures were taken to reduce or eliminate vibrations?

Usually they'll put special footings in to isolate the foundation from movement in the ground- but the answer is probably more complicated here-

I think the structure for the 1 may be still independent from the rest of the concourse and plaza structure in the wtc bathtub (remember they built around the tubes). As a result there probably isn't really any ground or anything else for the 1 to shake.

An aerial view of the WTC site viewed from the east, taken by @TomKaminskiWCBS on January 30, 2023.

If you open the image in a new tab and zoom in, you can start to see the unpaved sections around the PAC starting to fit in with the surrounding paved sections of the street grid, especially to the south and east of the PAC.

According to this linked post on New York YIMBY forums, the PAC will open in Fall 2023

The area east of the PAC and west of what will be an extension of Greenwich Street has been brought to street level and there are signs of planter holes. More black granite panels have been delivered and are lying on the paved section south of the PAC. More bracing has been installed along the slanted portion of the PAC to the east of the entry stairway. The section of Fulton Street that is closed off to the public appears to have been worked on recently. Along some sections southwest and south of the PAC and bordering Fulton Street are signs of newly installed bollards. There is still unfinished work on the plaza west of the PAC, with pavers not yet installed that would bring the plaza level to the same level as the section of plaza open to the public farther to the west.

The base cladding isn't granite, its metal panels, most likely aluminum, with a matte powder coating. 👍

Got it, thanks.

Metal panels have appear to have begun installation along the slanted south face of the PAC now. Metal panel installation around the ADA accessible entrance seems to be wrapping up. Still a lot of work for crews to perform to the west of the PAC, where pavers have still not been installed. It looks like progress by now is farther along to the east of the PAC, where the boundaries of the street grid are now coming into view.

There is also this recent bit of news suggesting that the PAC is currently scheduled to open in September 2023, with the PAC formally being referred to as "World Trade Center Performing Arts Center":

Marcus Samuelsson restaurant coming to the Perelman PAC

February 20, 2023 • Arts & Culture, Restaurant/Bar News

The chef Marcus Samuelsson, of Red Rooster fame in Harlem, will run the restaurant at the Perelman PAC — and I hope it’s like his super fun and lively spot Marcus B&P out by NJPAC in Newark — and it will be open to the public seven days a week. (The images below are not great – they are from the presentation at CB1 — and I will see if I can secure better ones.)

The not-for-profit entity that will operate the PAC is on the liquor license along with Samuelson’s restaurant group; they presented to CB1 this month. (The applicant on the application is World Trade Center Performing Arts Center, not Perelman, so I will check on that.)

I toured a ways back with the architect, Tribecan Joshua Ramus, and while I couldn’t use those pictures, the tour did give me a sense of the space and how it will work. The stairs on the south side of the cube, facing the memorial, lead visitors up into the building — you enter the cube from its underside, so it is a dramatic (no pun intended) entrance, since the cube is suspended above you.

The theater center’s lobby is on that second floor at the top of the stairs, as is the restaurant and its outdoor terrace, which is on the north side of the building. That will all be open to the public. The restaurant is 5600 square feet with 40 tables and 160 seats with 10 tables and 40 seats at the bar. (There are three theaters and they are designed to be reconfigured and combined. The smallest has a capacity of 80, the largest is 350, and the most common configuration is about 400. Maximum seating would be 800 or 850.)

There will be live music and DJs at the restaurant — of course! it’s a *performing* arts center — and I am not sure how anything there could disturb anyone since no one lives at the WTC (100 Barclay is the closest building and it is 260 feet away), but CB1 still had some concerns about that. The terrace will close at 11p. (Members were also worried that people would “get loaded and then leave” after a show. Not sure what that is about.)

I am curious about the traffic patterns: the operators said black cars (and taxis) will be able to pull up in front of the PAC and at One WTC.

The performance spaces are on the fourth floor, and there will be a couple bars up there as well. The license covers all of these.

The PAC is scheduled to open in September this year, if they stay on track.

PS: The lawyer Max Bookman, who represents dozens of applicants in the neighborhood, had some stats about the State Liquor License, shedding some light on how many new spots have had to operate with no drinks. He said that five years ago, it took the SLA about two months to approve an attorney-certified license application; it is now taking closer to eight months. Processing times are also getting worse. He said the SLA has a 10-point plan to speed things up, but that has not shown a difference yet.

Per a correction on YIMBY, the base cladding is in fact a slate colored granite. I had my suspicions and that is why I thought it was metal panels over stone.

Perelman Performing Arts Center Will Open in September at the World Trade Center Site
Further details of the inaugural season will be announced in spring 2023.
by Stephi Wild Feb. 28, 2023

Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC) Executive Director Khady Kamara and Artistic Director Bill Rauch announced the September 2023 opening of its new venue at the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan.

Named for businessman, philanthropist, and benefactor Ronald O. Perelman, the PAC will be a modern and forward-looking arts center - a home for theater, dance, music, chamber opera, film, and media - in the heart of one of the fastest-growing neighborhoods in the world capital of arts and culture.

The vision for the PAC began almost 20 years ago during Mike Bloomberg's tenure as mayor when the original master plan for rebuilding the Word Trade Center site included a performing arts center. Now chaired by Mr. Bloomberg, the PAC is the cultural keystone and final public element for the rebuilt 16-acre World Trade Center site. The PAC will serve as a magnet for visitors from around the city and around the world - and as an anchor for the Lower Manhattan community, with public spaces and programming open to all, a plaza with activity day and night, and an original concept restaurant led by Marcus Samuelsson.

The PAC raises the bar for dynamic and innovative design, bringing together a world-class team of award-winning architects and designers. Following an international design competition, the PAC commissioned the architecture firm REX, led by founding principal Joshua Ramus, to design the 138-foot-tall cube-shaped building. The PAC provides flexible venues of different sizes, each with multiple stage-audience configurations accommodating a multiplicity of artistic disciplines. The building is wrapped in almost 5,000 panels of bookmatched marble, which was quarried, slabbed, and cut to size in Portugal, fabricated with glass in France, and assembled into panels in Germany. The half-inch-thick marble tiles allow light to radiate in during the day and glow out during the evening. David Rockwell and his architecture and design firm Rockwell Group designed the interior of the lobby and restaurant with a dynamic, glowing ceiling visible from the street to create an inviting entry experience. The lobby's restaurant/lounge/bar and outdoor terrace offer a new gathering space for the Lower Manhattan community.

Khady Kamara said, "The performing arts have always been central to the life of downtown New York City, which is why it's fitting, and crucial, that this new institution is the element that completes the master plan for the World Trade Center site. Empowered by the indispensable vision and dedication of our Board of Trustees chaired by Mike Bloomberg, the extraordinary artistic leadership of Bill Rauch, and the brilliance of our design team, we will strive to live up to the profound responsibilities and vast potential of our site by bringing the public joy, beauty, and illumination."

Bill Rauch said, "Our goal in developing the artistic program is to innovate - providing exciting new ways for artists to create, collaborate, and share their work with a broad public - while representing and celebrating the humanity of our city in all its fullness. Whoever you are, wherever you come from, we want you to be able to find yourself in the PAC and find your connection to everyone else who shares in the work we do."

Joshua Ramus said, "Responding to the sanctity of the World Trade Center site and the humanistic aspirations of the PAC's mission, our design empowers artistic teams to imagine and create a vast range of performances and audience experiences, within a building that addresses its setting with respect and warmth."

Designed to provide unique audience experiences and elegantly respond to engineering needs of NYC

REX's design for the PAC, created in collaboration with executive architect Davis Brody Bond, theater consultant Charcoalblue, and acoustician Threshold Acoustics, is conceived for an artistic program that will have vast and varied needs, to serve New York's extraordinarily diverse arts community.

The design deploys mechanical and manual systems that enable the artistic team to alter the configurations of each of the three principal venues - the John E. Zuccotti Theater (seating up to 450 people), the Mike Nichols Theater (seating up to 250), and the Doris Duke Theater (seating up to 99) - while using these spaces independently or combining them. In all, the auditoria can transform into 10 different proportions that collectively adopt more than 50 stage-audience arrangements with capacities ranging from 99 to 950 seats, and with audience circulation and lobby areas varying to match.

The PAC is adjacent to the World Trade Center Oculus and Transportation Hub, home to 12 subway lines and the World Trade Center PATH Station. Because the PAC has been constructed above the complex Port Authority of New York and New Jersey infrastructure that runs throughout the World Trade Center site, straightforward and conventional methods of supporting the weight of the building could not be used. REX and structural engineer Magnusson Klemencic Associates devised a structural system that threads 7 mega-columns through the existing infrastructure to find adequate support, then uses these columns to hold aloft a massive belt truss structure within which the auditoria "float" to avoid acoustic vibrations, and from which the façade hangs like a curtain. The façade, composed of 5 foot by 3 foot units of marble and insulated glass, each weighing 295 pounds, was designed by REX in collaboration with façade consultant Front.

The eight-story building is organized on three main levels. The "public" level, accessible via a grand staircase or adjacent elevator at the corner of Fulton and Greenwich, includes the John C. Whitehead Lobby. Within the lobby concourse, the Clare and Vartan Gregorian Lobby Stage will feature free performances offered on a regular basis, while the Samuelsson restaurant, a bar, and the Dalio Family Terrace will be open day and night.

The middle, "artist" level houses the support spaces for artists and performances, including dressing rooms, green rooms, warm-up areas, wardrobe area, and other production facilities. Everything is provided to enable the organization to produce and co-produce original work and accommodate a variety of multi-disciplinary presentations. The top "play" level contains the three theaters and the rehearsal space.

Further details of the inaugural season will be announced in spring 2023. For more information, please visit www.theperelman.org.
www.theperelman.org (which now redirects to https://pacnyc.org/) has also been updated to list much more details and an official planned opening date of September 2023.

There are also new renders on the updated website:

and in this article https://untappedcities.com/2023/03/0...-trade-center/

There is also a new video render in this article: https://tribecacitizen.com/2023/03/0...g-arts-center/

It looks like Greenwich Street will be narrowed regardless of whether 2 WTC is built, if the video render at 1:16 is to be believed.

Most of the slanted portion of the PAC near the southwest entry stairway has now been cladded. Sidewalk installation appears to be proceeding to the east of the PAC bordering what will be Greenwich Street. Area to the west of the PAC that will become part of the east plaza of One WTC hasn't yet had pavers installed.

One of the most widely anticipated New York cultural and architectural events of 2023 is the September opening of the Perelman Performing Arts Center, an engineering masterpiece within the footprint of the old World Trade Center. My great friend and inspiration @joshua_ramus is the architect who designed an exterior that has already changed the face of downtown New York and an interior with three auditoria that together have over 50 configurations! Josh gave me an Easter Sunday tour, a near religious experience! #perelmancenter #perelmanperformingartscenter #pacnyc #wtc

Update on construction: more bollards and sidewalk curb along length of Fulton Street to the south of the PAC have been installed. More portions to the southwest of the PAC have been paved and covered with light colored tarp. Ground is still dug up along sections of what will become the sidewalk along Fulton Street. Black granite panels have been installed near ADA accessible entrance, but small triangular granite panel near eastern portion of slanted south face is still missing. Work continues along the east side of the PAC of what will become the sidewalk bordering Greenwich Street to the west. To the west of the PAC, either pavers or dark colored tarp has been laid out with wooden boards still strewn on the sections that are not covered by this material.

Progress is coming along with cladding of the steps on the southwest entry stairway, pavers for the portion of the plaza to the west of the PAC, as well as installation of curbs, pavers and trees along the unfinished portion of Fulton Street to the south of the PAC.

The color and texture of the pavers installed along the west plaza portion and Fulton Street matches the color and texture of the pavers along the north, outer west and south walkways bordering One WTC. It provides a nice contrast to the elevated east plaza of One WTC, which has much lighter colored pavers.

According to TKDV on New York YIMBY forums, three trees have been planted by now, although in the picture which they had recently posted:

there appear to be only two new trees planted that are visible (correction: there appears to be a newly planted tree just to the west on the outside edge of the construction barrier).

From the color of the bark on the recently planted trees, these trees could be honey locust trees, just like the trees on the east plaza of One WTC and in Liberty Park. This is in contrast to the Swamp White Oak trees on the 9/11 memorial plaza, the London Plane Trees along the south and inner west walkways along One WTC and (what appear to be Kentucky Coffeetrees) along the outer west walkway adjacent to the west plaza of One WTC. Edit: however, given the recently planted trees haven't leafed out yet, it's possible that they are a different species of trees altogether.

Southwestern and eastern sides of the PAC still look less finished. The south wall of the PAC has some discoloration on the black granite, with a vertical, lighter colored streak running down the face. This might be a scratch or just dirt from construction that will later be washed away.

Also there appears to be some kind of rectangular obstacle at the foot of One WTC at the northwest side of the east plaza since at least March. Not sure if it is equipment or planter of some sort.

The Perelman Performing Arts Center @ The World Trade Center ~ Set for Completion in September, 2023

Perelman, the PAC will be a modern and forward-looking arts center – a home for theater, dance, music, chamber opera, film, and media – in the heart of one of the fastest-growing neighborhoods in the world capital of arts and culture.

An agreement was announced by Governor Cuomo that will pave the way for construction of a “world-class arts center” on the World Trade Center site, named The Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center. The center will include three theaters, rehearsal space and other amenities, with 200,000 square-feet of space, three halls and rehearsal space, a restaurant, and a gift shop are included in the design.

The vision for the PAC began almost 20 years ago during Mike Bloomberg’s tenure as mayor when the original master plan for rebuilding the Word Trade Center site included a performing arts center.
