The loss of character is small, but it is missed.

Oh for the love of fuck.
The thing is in the Railroad museum, just let it stay there.

I starkly disagree. Put it back.

Yay for the flippy board for coming back. I'm glad we have the digital and the flippy board.

I recently watched this video again and so far I got to say I'm not disappointed with what is being planed today. Though I hope we do get more walking paths on the west side of Philly.

There’s a lot of talk about this project in the Schuylkill Yards thread right now and I’d like to consolidate it here.

That having been said, I wouldn’t just bump this thread for nothing. Last night on a date, I happened to be seated near a woman who works for Amtrak, who confirmed that this project is still very much happening (at least in Amtrak’s eyes).

Does she mean building over the rail yard or the station itself. Supposedly there is suppose to be a public meeting Early 2023 about the station itself from Amtrak and Plenary Infrastructure Philadelphia (PIP)

The overbuild of the train yard. She was pretty clear.

IIRC the first phase of the project was always going to be the remodeling of the station and its grounds.

To get a scoop like that from someone when you're on a date with someone else is top-tier SkyscraperPage stuff there

Here's the schedule:

https://www.constructionequipmentgui...-in-2022/53850

Nothing is going to happen over the rail yard. No RFP announced over the rail yard but RFR as a master plan that includes this stuff in the above schedule. I would think once all the land is developed in UC, then this might be on the table.

My date's eyes rolled into the back of her head the second the people next to us mentioned Amtrak -- she knew what was coming

Honestly, after Schuylkill Yards what else is there in the immediate vicinity?

There's a few more building to go before SY gets fully built out, including a supertall. I think if we get large corporations or mix-used after that, then 30th St station over the rail yards could be in play. But until then, the cart is before the horse.

The underground concourse to the 30th street MFL stop and a new designated Bus Shelter area isn't part of these initial plans?

I didn't see it as part of the Master Plan. But see this:

Getting good workable underground connections between SEPTA and 30th Street Station is important and should have been done years ago, but let's face it, the big prize here is getting something major brewing north of the station, and that's still years away. There would need to be piles of public money spent and right now there's much more important projects kicking around. Amtrak has never seen a dollar it doesn't try to spend 5 times over on ten different ideas. Of course they want this idea to succeed, but I bet you they'll want to get $$$ for the air rights instead of seeing the long term benefits from having this unused potential built on. Amtrak knows how to shoot itself in the foot better than most.
