The general lumpiness is puzzling to me. I assume it's done for reasons of drainage since the speed tables mess up the flow of water in the gutters, but the result is pretty janky looking. They could have hidden this pretty well if they kept the top of the curb level, but instead the curb line jumps up and down following the pavement. God forbid somebody's car doors scrape on the curb...

They're necessary to keep this from becoming a drag racing strip. And I'll endorse any measure that discourages driving. The planet is dying.

Eh, its kinda shit though. Its possible to grade this properly. They just didnt.

I would tell them to tear it up and try again. On their own dime.

The road looks fine, but it should’ve been straight and flat (where possible), and just like all of the other major downtown streets. It was designed like some sort of road through a subdivision in Streamwood or something

So, you're describing every road in Chicago?

Unfortunately I think only single track (so two girders). It doesn't even look like the abutments are wide enough for a second track in the future.

This part of the SCAL has been unused since April (the bridge has been up). So haste is not especially needed.

Yes that northern track will be needed if the West Loop Transit is ever built so Intercity train can sweep right into Metra/Amtrak yards and then down the tunnel to the west side of CUS under Canal.

After looking at it again it does look like the abutment can fit two tracks if CN doesn’t insist on a ridiculous track center (UP did this on the new North Line bridges).

I assume if they ever decide to build a link from SCAL into Union Station somehow, they will refurbish the north bridge and build another overpass over Wells. Just need to make sure the DPI is built with a decent setback from the tracks.

Just stumbled upon this project and it looks pretty cool! I saw the layout of the 78, and have some questions. What are the phases for this project, and which of the buildings seen below are part of each phase? Also, when is the completion date for each phase and the total project? Thanks!

Something like this . . . .

1. Build Wells-Wentworth
<-------------------------we are here
2. Start DPI

c. Move Metra

iv. Modest (300-unit) residential highrise

* Break ground on CTA station

7.2 (fingers crossed for a couple of anchor tenants) try a 300,000 sf office block and see what the absorption looks like

M. Look at 2030 market trends and figure out what's next.

these renderings seem more refined but im not familiar enough with the project to know which is most recent. Love the waterfront design.
