MikeToronto did make a good point about Simons in that post. Simons is not some kind of elite luxury store... it's nice, it's fashionable and it's accessible. Like a nice, tasteful Marshalls.

Whatever happened to that guy?

Perhaps it's just a coincidence but I've noticed that people do dress (slightly) better in my city since we've had a Simons.

(We're still the worst-dressed city in Quebec though, IMO.)

In Rimouski's case, the demand for new projects is driven more by its 0.2% all time low vacancy rate than its growth percentage.

Is there anything in the universe that is more soul-sucking than a dead mall?

The SAAQ (driver's license renewal place for the ROCers) in my local mall only takes CASH or CHEQUE.

Hand-written signs posted by disgruntled employees that were tired of telling people 'we don't accept 21st century payment technology, sorry'.

The most ubiquitous types of dead mall flooring seem to be poo brown tiles from the 70's and red or green square on white tile patterns from the 90's.

I am assuming the French being a slightly larger font than English is in keeping with Quebec language laws. But no dots telling people where to stand.

I love Simons. I wish I had more money to spend on nice(r) clothes.

My brother is kind of a picky, slightly pretentious jerk and I sent him a Simons gift card for his birthday, and he ordered online and when his purchases arrived he and his wife were really impressed with the quality and styles offered.
And he's lived in California for years where one has basically access to every well known brand store/department store/fashion imaginable.

Was in Port Elgin via Sauble and came across this gorgeous gem. I didn't find a mall inside, but this place was pure liminal bliss. Anyone know what's going on with it?

A nice shot of Sauble beach in case that gave you an existential crisis.

I'm very confused. Where's the mall? Looks like a high school or industrial park office building.

Holy geez. Agree that it has to be a former mall that was a former high school? Did not know about this place.
