Canadian real estate developer Jesta Group, under the North Bay Village Holdings, LLC (NBV Holdings), has requested a review from the Shoreline Development Review Committee (SDRC) of North Bay Village for a proposed 30-story mixed-use tower at 1819 and 1855 79th Street Causeway. Home to a Best Western Hotel and the iconic Shuckers Waterfront Bar & Grill, both owned by NBV Holdings, the 2.31-acre bay-front site is planned to yield a 340-foot-tall structure with 345 apartments, 256 hotel rooms, meeting and retail space. There would also be a new and improved Shuckers restaurant, a wide and welcoming public paseo and view corridor, and an Island Walk promenade along the water. Kobi Karp Architecture & Interior Design Inc. is listed as the architect alongside Architectural Alliance Landscape for landscape architecture and Ross Engineering Inc. for civil engineering.
The building would have a roof height of 340 feet but would extend further to 360 feet after factoring in the elevator bulkhead and mechanical component. The podium levels above the ground and mezzanine floors would be the hotel portion of the building program, spanning levels 2 through 5 with ceiling heights ranging between 14 and 16 feet. Residences would span between levels 7 and 29, with ceiling heights of 10 feet. The parking garage would have 557 spaces and would be completely hidden from the public as they would be beneath the hotel rooms designed to wrap around the entire perimeter of the podium.
