I wouldn't put too much thought in 1301's design or its especially its height. Way too early and the height, design, and usage will all change once the first major tenant is signed. Here's what we know: Pulver owns the land and is actively trying to develop a tall building here. Anything beyond that is pure speculation (which can be fun).
Personally, I like a modern glass tower, especially against City Hall and the other pre-war buildings nearby. But I do hope that one day, Philadelphia gets a tall (700+ ft) traditional style building (preferably Art Deco). For all the wonderful architecture we have here, our skyline is dominated by modern buildings. Cleveland (Terminal Tower), Detroit (Penobscot Building), NYC (ESB, Chrysler, and 40 Wall Street), and even Pittsburgh (Gulf Building) all have skylines that prominently feature really tall Art Deco buildings from the 1920's / 1930's. I want one please
But aside from the Mormons, is there a developer willing to spend the big bucks needed to build a traditional building that doesn't look like a blatant and cheap knock off?
I completely agree with you on these points, completely agree. I do wonder if a modern version of an Art Deco building would work kind of like Liberty One and how it reflects the Chrysler Building; we could have a building like that I guess.
I wonder if there is a height limit for the site?
I wonder if Philadelphia markets to businesses in India or China who need a North American Headquarters; especially if they plan to go global.

From SEPTA's photos, definitely like to see more glass towers around City Hall. As his photo shows, lots of masonry buildings around that point and the glass would certainly breaks things up and kinda signals a new era of modern development.

Yeah , I believe that project is referred to as the Chicago Square and one tower @ 998 ' and
the other @ something like 584 ' ..... I would piss my pants on the corner of 8th. & Market in
front of city counsel for ANYTHING close to 500' ..... So please make something positive happen

This would be amazing for the Disney Hole; I just looked at a panorama of the city and the balance it would give to the entire city is amazing. This would be great if we could get it; maybe if Microsoft comes here.

Cira South was proposed in 2007. It didn't break ground until -- I wanna say 2014? -- and didn't get finished until last year. So that was a decade-long development cycle. And that had the power of Brandywine as lead developer and Penn as anchor tenant behind it from the outset.
