Let's get that crown up and lit, it'll stand out more, the new icon...

^ Yeah, that crown will be the feature that helps this one stand out on the skyline.

Looking good! Would have been cool if the base of the building tied in (architecturally) to Grand Central, but understand this is trying to be its own thing. I do appreciate the bit of art deco influence in the design to fit with the area.

^^^What is the material used in the horizontal bands below the windows along the floor plates? And what is the color? It appears a tan band above a dark gray band. Thanks

if you want to see more -- the same company that made this also made the green terra cotta on the beautiful new deco throwback residential building next to the high line park in chelsea -- check it out!

I am so glad to see terra cotta used again! It adds something very special to just about every building it has ever been placed upon. It says "Class" & "Style" & "Permanence" in a way that just glass alone can not. Stone is beautiful, however terra cotta has something different about it. A different quality altogether. Like on 111 W 57th St. it makes a statement! Here on One Vanderbilt it is understated and beautiful. And as stated before it compliments its stately neighbor, the Chrysler. Perfect choice!

It's making sort of a comeback. It will also be used on the SHoP designed supertall Downtown, but green...
