Have you also learned that secret from the river; that there is no such thing as time? That the river is everywhere at the same time, at the source and at the mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry, at the current, in the ocean and in the mountains.-Hermann Hesse

I always enjoy your photos, they are the finest in the Mountain West, even though Boise is a Northwest city.

I can vouch for this since I live in the Salt Lake area and visit Boise often. Downtown Boise has the synergy that downtown Salt Lake craves, downtown SLC is larger but downtown Boise does feel more vibrant. Boise has a better restaurant scene, including the farm to table organics, coffee scene, brewery scene and of course you have wine bars and more bikes on the streets! I think the greenery that surrounds downtown really adds to the vibrancy and laid back, easy vibe of Boise. And you have a river flowing through downtown.

Heading up with the family to Boise in July to float the Payette!

Thank you!! I concur and have been on this end of the debate for years.

Also, have a great trip. The Payette is a blast.

Boise is a NW city and Idaho a NW state although SE Idaho can be considered "mountain west".

The lush forested mountains adjacent to Boise and extending north to British Columbia are classic Northwest and gives Idaho the status of being the most mountainous and forested state in the inland west.

I feel our city peers are to our west, we always get labeled as the next Portland. We have more in common with our NW siblings than the desert below the state line of SE Idaho. Are we still the 3rd largest city in the Northwest?

Enjoy the Payette when you visit Northerlad. It's some of the finest whitewater on the planet! You should book a float on the Salmon River...the gold standard of whitewater.

I always felt like the PNW was something around this. Somewhere in that neighborhood anyway.
