Was that after her one on one meeting with Trudeau?

About a year too late IMO. Resigning after an election "win" (her seat anyway) is tone deaf.

Smart decision, it's time. The Greens basically got slightly more than half of popular vote they did in 2008. New blood needed.

She'll continue to sit as an MP.

Well, taxpayers already spent money for an election in that riding. It would be a huge waste to have another so soon after.

Yeah, I'm not sure I see a problem with her continuing to represent her riding. The timing will give her successor ample time to become known to Canadians. She may also be keeping the successor's future seat warm, assuming that the new leader will want to run to be an MP as soon as is practical.

The Libs may lose another two Quebec seats to the Bloc, recounts are going on in Hochelaga and Quebec (downtown Québec).

(The latter's riding name can be confusing - imagine a federal riding named "Ontario".)

The Libs were really lucky the not-even-party-status Bloc's organization (for "getting out the vote") wasn't anywhere close to what it used to be, they won about 10 ridings by really small margins (thanks to vote splitting to the NDP, which hasn't yet finished deflating completely), all of those being ridings that used to vote Bloc in the Before Layton era. The next election on the same issues would likely result in LPC ~25, BQ ~42. (If it happens early enough that the current issues are the same, which isn't a given at all obviously.)

Is it likely? I thought the margin of victory was over 300 votes in both ridings.

Doug Ford today said that the country is divided after the last election and that he is the person who will unit Canada again. Bwahahahaha. Maybe that's hisway of saying he will run for the leadership of the federal conservative party.

Well, there is at least a city called Quebec. Ontario did have a riding called Ontario. Four of them, in fact—Ontario, Ontario North, Ontario South, and Ontario West. See if you can guess which region they're referring to before you click those links! (hint: it isn't called "Ontario" any more, but its university is.)
