Here's a new article about the Ridge Flats net-zero energy apartment development in East falls, which just got approval from the Planning Commission on Tuesday.

This area of the city is going to be absolutely awesome. I am so impressed by the continued growth in this area and love the idea of turning this old warehouses into lofts. This area will have a "soho" feel to it and will hopefully keep a lot of college grads in the city.

First rendering looks more like Vegas than Philly.

Don't like the overall design but I do like that the terrace and front entrance is opened up to the Parkway and Pennsylvania Ave. I guess the plan for tall and sleek just isn't going to happen. Another sprawler but good infill.

My biggest concern is the visibility of the Whole Foods from the Parkway (signage, etc.). A grocery store, albeit a somewhat upscale one, is not exactly conducive to the atmosphere you want in a world-class museum district. It's hard to tell from these renderings (at least based on a quick glance) but, hopefully, that won't be an issue.

Whole Foods signage can't be anymore of an eyesore to the Parkway than those hideous baseball fields.

True, but no need to compound the problem. We want the city to get better, not worse.

Given that this is on Pennsylvania parking lot Avenue and not the parkway proper, I'm not too worried about the signage. It will be too far away to be all that noticeable. This is about a thousand times better than the horrific Best Western and surface lot that are currently there. Tall and sleek would have been nice, but probably not going to happen at this location sadly. We are building up a nice density of mid-rise buildings right around here though, hopefully paving the way for something taller in the future when the remaining underdeveloped lots are mostly filled in.
