Map of Exchange and Surrounding Area

Here's a rough map of the area. There is no way to contain the growth of the red zone. It is slowly spreading south into the Exchange. There is no chance of gentrification because private and government social welfare agencies have invested millions of dollars in permanent infrastructure. They have basically created a dystopian microculture where residents can settle in the area long-term and have everything at their disposal (fresh needles, health services, food, and most importantly... legal immunity.

"Let's rip down all the affordable housing and eliminate social services!"

...

"Oh, my God! Why are there so many homeless people and social problems?"

This logic would arrest firefighters for arson because they were at the crime scene...

call me an asshole, it won't be the 1st time, but you want a free sandwich or coffee, then pick up a bag of garbage and dispose in trash bin then you get it. show some respect to others and respect will be shown to you.

You could easily end up with a Cobra Effect, where you accidentally incentivize people to litter even more, because a dumped out garbage can today means a bonus sandwich tomorrow.

Hadn’t heard too much about 52 Albert (Gregg building) but on my lunch walk today I noticed they are punching windows out of the southern facade.

Also the old saddlery building on Main has gone through quite the change!

I walked by the Carriage Works on Princess and it is such a great, high quality addition to the streetscape. The neighbouring buildings to the south have been nicely redone too. The only thing that's missing is some lighting and signage, it looks like a camouflage building trying to hide when it should have a sign or two highlighting its presence.

I wish we could get another dozen just like it.

Lookin good! Great parking lot filler.

I saw a picture of that block from way back, and that lot has been there for decades

^ Awesome, really seems to compliment its surroundings well with a unique “twist” as it were.

The only thing missing is the beautiful heritage building that used to be there.

That's the tricky thing with heritage buildings, they won't wait forever for someone to do something with them.

Take the Winnipeg Hotel for example.

You can thank the Nimby's for that. The original proposal was taller and more proportioned.
