Weird.
That likely has to do with the extreme heat during the day. I was out lastnight and noticed quite a lot of construction activity at a few of the sites.. Sunday night mind you.. There's construction activity for sure during the day but I'm thinking whatever they are able to get away with doing at night, they are doing to dodge the persistent 100+ heat which is extremely dangerous to work in.

Weird.
You can see at least 2 of them at the beginning of the last video. But I noticed that, too. For how fast they're going up, it seems to be empty more often than not.

Do you have to get permission to fly that close to the construction or do you just wing it? I thought I was crazy flying my mavic 3/phantom 4 over downtown at all; I never thought to try going so close to anything for fear of the wind blowing it into the side of something. Also I tend to lose track of which direction is forward and backwards and fly in the wrong direction into things.

Ignoring the name on the building, I do think the Trump Tower in Chicago looks significantly better, though. We don't have many buildings here with a fully round edge like that.

Aside from the naming rights, I think Trump Tower Chicago is one of the best new buildings in that city since the Hancock Tower. It's a fantastic building.

One of the things that wasn't particularly apparent about 6X from renderings was how the different angles and facets will catch the light. That part's really growing on me. It'll be amazing when all the glass is finally in place.

What to know about Facebook’s new digs in Austin — and San Antonio’s connection to city’s tallest tower

https://www.expressnews.com/business...n-17320704.php

On West Sixth Street in Austin, a couple of blocks from the bar-crawling madness, a San Antonio developer is building what will become (though maybe only for a while) the city’s tallest tower with all its offices reserved for Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook.

San Antonio’s Kairoi Residential is partnering with Lincoln Property Company of Austin to build the 66-story tower, known as Sixth and Guadalupe because it is at the northwest corner of the crossing of West Sixth and Guadalupe streets. On Dec. 31, Meta leased all the office space in the tower, amounting to 589,000 square feet across 33 floors, according to the Austin Business Journal. It will also include 349 residential units.

The tower is expected to open in 2023, according to news reports from earlier this year. Mike Lynd Jr., the CEO of Kairoi, said in an email Thursday afternoon that Facebook has signed a lease but that he can’t immediately provide an update on the project’s construction status. Recent photographs show that it has already come to dominate the skyline.

What's the current estimated height now? Looks like it has at least another 100 feet to go. The building already looks massive when viewed from a distance. There are some vantage points where you can barely see the rest of downtown.

Due to the topography, there are distant vantage points similar to this outside of Pittsburgh. Here's the US Steel tower from around 25 miles away, which is comparable in height to Sixth X Guadalupe and it's surrounding buildings. Both downtowns lie in valleys (though with more extreme elevation differences there).

Pic from this forum: https://www.city-data.com/forum/gene...-see-40.html#b

I'd love to see some similar distant shots from our group when this tower tops out.

The upper floors of 6xG are now popping up alongside the Domain towers from I-35 at Westinghouse. This is in the city limits of Georgetown.

Is that the roof of the Independent between the cell towers/concrete plant?

This thing is deceivingly tall. Some angles it doesn't look much bigger than the Indy/Austonian right now, but from the north it looks gigantic. Maybe an elevation difference?

There is a slight elevation difference, 6X site essentially sits on a slope.

Good eye - that is indeed the Independent. Here's another view from nearby. At this angle 6xG is popping up behind The Bowen at the Domain and the Independent is more clearly visible to the right.

^^^What's amazing is that this image was taken about 22 miles from downtown Austin (as the crow flies).
