I do feel like I've been getting better at it, may need to update some of the first ones I made. Thanks!

Do you have a pinhead sized drone?

I'll probably try to do the river, but doubt I'll be able to replicate hills that would look good. Its also going to be massive already with just downtown.

Bet, just a little bit of wire haha.

Testing some photo paper, ended up being too think so I bought some thinner stuff that I'll be testing tonight on Marriott again. Guess I'll have an extra Marriott.

That's an amazing model of that building. The slightly offset/angled southeast corner, above the podium, always struck me as quirky, and I like it, but I wonder how much extra money it cost to add that feature?

Question: the color appears to be off, compared to what I'm seeing in photos:

Will the final model look more like that photo?

Thanks for noticing the angled corner! It came out better looking the second go around.

As for the color, that's one of the hard parts of making the models. I have to pore over as many pictures as I can of a building, especially glass ones, and pick a good mid-tone for its coloring. They can look very different at different times of the day and in different weather conditions.

These are more of what I was going for in the coloring:

However, I did darken the dark grey cladding color the second go around. It definitely needed it. I'll get some good lighting pictures soon, but I do have a quick phone snap on my IG story with the finished block.

I would agree that color is one of the most difficult things to get right, even when drawing diagrams for this site. I've never second/third/fortieth guessed myself more than trying to get the color right, especially with glass buildings.

Below is just a small sample of the many color iterations I tested before eventually deciding on the colors I felt best matched the real thing.

I like the Marriott Downtown. It's effectively just a box, but the facade detail and color contrast make it for me.

I think the last two more closely compare to what I see in the tower when flying.

So I wanted to share a video I made here, but I forget this forum software is still stuck in the year 2008 and there's no way to embed a non-youtube video, so here's a link instead.

My paper skyscrapers then and now

Awesome! Your talents extend well beyond creating perfect little paper model buildings. I especially liked the giant you CGI'd into pushing Downtown around.

Every last bit of that video and the results are beyond amazing. Is there any way you would be able to construct a rough model of the Waterline and/or Wilson towers? There is probably not enough detail out there to work with I'd love to see how they appear in the skyline.

Haha thanks! Will be using that setup to do some slower revolving shots of new buildings I make, just wanted to do something more exciting with it first.

Thank you! Honestly creation is art and I love any part of it.

Absolutely! Waterline, there should be enough. With them being not built yet, I would need detailed elevation drawings to work from, but I assume we have those somewhere for Waterline. Wilson, I think we may get some after the design commission meeting today.

But also, I've been trying to work on the rest of the skyline so that when I do get to those two, they'll look so imposing.

I hadn't realized that the models used reflective (shiny) material. Hard to improve on your A+ grade but after seeing that video I would have to give you an A++!

I had an Instagram account but it won't let me log in anymore. Maybe inactivity, but that seems short-sighted on their part if it's the case. Anyway, I look forward to seeing your next photos.

(The good thing about Youtube is anyone can see the video without having an account.)

Thank you! The reflections show up way better in person!

Good news is, I'm starting a youtube channel by popular request on Reddit, so I'll put it up here in just a bit.

Hey all! Before I get bumped to the second page, wanted to get an update out!

Been busy with life but I've still managed to get a couple of blocks designed and built (and even sold one!).

I also have finally gotten around to posting videos on Youtube, so here ya go!

Edit: Can't get the videos to work on here, keep getting playback errors.

I guess here's a link instead:

YouTube Channel
