I always resent having to make two crossings. Why can't they figure out a safe way for cyclists to make left turns?

Ottawa has for over 100 years experimented with various forms of improved urbanism. From the greening of the riverfronts starting as early as 1900, to building an extensive network of multi-use pathways and the largest skating rink in the world on the Rideau Canal in the 1970s to the construction the first BRT network in North America in the 1980s and 1990s, and now quickly building an equally impressive LRT network, this is another example of improvements to alternate transportation, that will become more useful as more key streets are rebuilt. Right now, another major thoroughfare, Montreal Road is currently under construction and will incorporate the latest standards of bicycle infrastructure. Ottawa has long way to go to make cycling safer, but the city is making large strides, especially considering that Ottawa is a winter city.

Do you have suggestions on how to accomplish this?

There is nothing stopping a cyclist from making a traditional left turn in traffic, but the double crossing is all about safety for the many who don't want to be cycling in the midst of traffic especially at the most busy intersections.

The city has been implementing advanced pedestrian priority at various intersections and I am seeing some cycling signals being installed.

I am not sure how many different priorities can be implemented at the same intersection without bogging down the whole intersection.
