Yes, the paradigm shift is certainly noteworthy.
But as one of the most thoroughly auto-centric "geography of nowhere" places ever designed, schaumburg seems like such a lost cause to me.
They're never gonna redevelop any of the numerous 6 lane stroads that criss-cross it into anything ever resembling traditional urbanism, not in my lifetime anyway.
It's a shame how that crap got baked in from the beginning and will be an anchor for the town for the foreseeable future.
The egregious and unfortunate mistakes of post-war planning will be very hard to undo on any kind of larger scale.
