Metro Detroit has a Beverly Hills, though it's a fairly anonymous postwar middle-to-upper-middle class suburb. Not particularly associated with wealth.

Boy would that have been a disaster.

At least Portland, ME is a largely regional city that doesn't have any major professional sports teams.

Hollywood, FL didn't get on the map? Or Miami, Oklahoma? Or even Jupiter, FL?

According to this list from SkyscraperCity (sorry, I'm too lazy to compile a list like this from original sources tonight between cocktails), metropolitan St. Louis was more populous in 1920 than was metropolitan Los Angeles. And, because it was more established, I can buy that it was presumably more prestigious as well. According to the same source, however, metro LA had about a million more people than did Metro St. Louis by 1930.

Again, the following is is from SkyscraperCity as linked above, and if you don't like it, take it up with the guy who made it. I'm posting it because I don't have a better source.

Gotcha. I knew that LA grew like a weed at some point early in the 20th century, but I couldn't remember exactly when.

Highland Park is another one of these. Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia, NYC and I'm sure plenty of others have suburbs named Highland Park.

We like to think of our Newark as the "good" one. We also pronounce it differently, which helps differentiate between the two.

Our Wilmington is usually considered the other Wilmington by outsiders. The North Carolina one is the one most people know about.

Atlanta is really nothing more than a rural intersection of two country roads.

Houston would've been a better option for Delaware than Atlanta. Our Houston is pronounced differently, though.

God the St. Louis, Michigan one is a real doozy given the state's initials: MI.

Given that ZIP codes didnt exist until the 60's, you gotta wonder how many poor fools throughout history have sent mail meant for St. Louis, Missouri to "St. Louis, MI"

SF has its own Newark. It's a kind of small (I think) town next to Fremont.

Newark is an electronics distributor, apparently with US HQ in Chicago? (But a subsidiary of Farnell)

In the western US, Wilmington, NC comes up during school because of its port. The only thing I remember learning about Delaware was that it was the first state...nothing else.

Wilmington, IL is the resting stop of the Gemini Giant:

(and, unfortunately, also the first place you see confederate flags, driving SW on Route 66 from Chicago: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.3094...7i16384!8i8192)

Dallas. Dallas itself also has a Highland Park Village neighborhood adjacent to Highland Park, TX.

Beverly Hills, MO is like teens/20s suburban worker bungalows, lol. Almost brick shotgun houses in places.
