Look at that dramatic Indian upsurge in Canada concurrent with a certain U.S. election.

No doubt India's best and brightest are increasingly taking their talent to Canada, and Canada will reap the benefits with a spike of innovation.

It’s good your positive, but a little tail wagging the dog assessment there. According to your reasoning, India should be the most technologically advanced, innovative country on the planet, by far.

Considering how fast the northern parts of the US are growing, Canada is happy to fleece as much educated labor as it can. The question is, can Canada keep them? I personally know of tons of Indians here in NJ who used Canada as a stepping stone to the US.

The U.S. is the most technologically advanced, innovative country on the planet because it culls the best and brightest. Now an increasing share of said best and brightest are headed to Canada, which should aid in innovation, where Canada tends to be a relative laggard.

And Indian immigrants to the U.S. tend to be particularly elite, with advanced education and high salaries, and they tend to work in innovation industries, meaning the loss to U.S. innovation will be acute.

Yes, it's much easier to immigrate to Canada, and many use Canada as a "bridge" between their home countries and U.S. but even if Canada loses a share to the U.S., they still massively benefit from the overall increased talent.

I am somewhat skeptical of that notion that immigration restriction in the US has led to an increase in Canada since immigration from India has grown a lot in the US as well.

That link is from Breitbart, and therefore complete garbage, funded by enemies of America.

And the graph adds nothing to the conversation.

Breitbart maybe garbage, but the chart is lifted directly from the Census Bureau.

Yes, but the decline is very modest. Also there is a country cap bill in the Senate that would dramatically increase immigration from India.

The link is Breitbart, so yes, is garbage, and will be ignored by the vast majority of people.

I don't think it's asking too much to not link to extremist hate sites.

The source of the data was from the national bureau of economic research.

Maybe they fucked with the numbers. Maybe they set up the chart to distort the real picture. Given Breitbart exists solely to poison the public discourse with extremist right-wing propaganda, nothing linked from there gets the benefit of the doubt.

It's generally smart not to pull data from nutjobs. The same is true about any advocacy group...even true stuff is typically cherry-picked to fit their narrative.

Actually, it's clearly the Census Bureau, quoted by Breitbart. Of course you can, and probably will, argue that Breitbart is distorting or lying about the Census numbers but I doubt it. I looked for other sources. Heres a good thorough discussion but it generally doesn't discuss trends in 2018/2019: https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tan...-s-immigrants/ .

Nothing is "clear" when it comes to Breitbart, which exists only to disseminate extremist right wing propaganda. That is the whole point.
