It's the perfect spot for another large hotel project, but agree that any plan involving demolition of the historic structures facing Tchoup is a no go. There should be a way to incorporate these structures into the overall building design.

The other issue for that parcel of land is that current zoning only allows for a building height of 70 feet (which is absolutely stupid, imo).

I sure hope this rumor is true, a 38 floor building would be great!!

So what did the source say? Is it going to be an office, condo/apartment, or hotel tower? Lol

Would also love something like this approved. Have always hoped to see some major well-designed tower or 2 to go along Poydras or in those lots in S Rampart and Perdido

I dont see how it would be office, not enough demand unless (and i am dreaming here) some major company was planning a relocation and bringing 10,000 jobs with them. Its got to be a hotel, likely with a residential component. 38 floors is massive so this is exciting. Part of me does wonder how many more hotel rooms we could add? Maybe the new STR laws have hotels seeing more demand?

In a surprise twist, Joe Jaeger builds a massive hotel at the power plant to spite the convention center for the Top Golf thing ...

I jest, but while there are a lot of hotel projects coming down the pipeline, most are fairly small compared to what's being built in other tourism destinations. Off the top of my head there are maybe 1000-1500 rooms under construction with maybe another 2000-2500 planned. Nashville for example has 7000 under construction and even more than that planned.

We haven't had a large 1000+ room addition to the market since the Hyatt came back on line in 2011 and while I often criticize the process, I agree with tourism officials in that we need more large facilities to attract more big events.

As I was reading it I was thinking, “oh wow a major company must be relocating to the city” tbh I hope that is the case.

Harrah's

Looks like Harrah's is getting an extension and will add restaurants (I think NOBU was supposed to be one) and that hotel tower. https://www.nola.com/politics/2019/0...2nd-hotel.html

Anyone have a guess on if we have seen the final design, or is it possible that it changes drastically? The original was ok... but nothing special.

Some good market analysis on the needs of the New Orleans East.

https://www.louisianacommercialrealt...-orleans-east/

Definitely not the richest part of the city (per capita income is on par with Flint, MI.), but the report shows a definite need for another grocery store or two as well as furniture stores and restaurants. I think a Target with a grocery option would do very well out there. Kind of surprised there is no Rouses in the East yet either.

Here the descriptions of the largest demographics in the East for reference.

Family Foundations demographic

Lots of great stuff from https://djsnola.tumblr.com/

Very interested to see what is planned for this parking lot. Zoning change request. Current zoning would limit to 125 feet or 10 floors.

Loews Theater project update. Option E really catches my eye.

Harrah's is extremely dated. Every inch of that place needs some TLC.
