So they did end up using real stone for the base? Looks great.

Wow it's unbelievable how good the real stuff looks. I'd love to see a faux historical tower use it completely at some point. I just don't see the point of mixing really high quality material with mediocre material because it only serves to underscore the mediocre part.

One thing we can all agree on, nothing beats limestone. And going a step further, traditional details really emphasize the gravitas of the material.

There's a new video on the One Bennett Park website that I'm sure will stir some opinions on this forum:

https://onebennettpark.com/vision

I will say this, it's a pretty sexy opener for the city. But the way the rendered building looks ... I don't know, I've never had strong opinions about this building either way, but I'm not sold on it with this animation.

(And I'm aware that renderings / animations don't reflect the project as it will eventually look, but still ... )

For those who don't want to click the video and just see the images:

Walked by this afternoon and noticed some bronze details around some of the windows and EAST SIDE of the building. Not sure if it's real bronze or painted on.

"My design philosophy is to go backwards to go forwards"

-RAMSA

Yes, this building is definitely backwards...

Then he goes on to talk about how the city is all black towers and that he wants to contrast that.

So you are well aware of Chicago's architectural history and say you are drawing on the past, and then design something with no connection to Chicago's architectural heritage... Okee Dokee hoaky.

I almost vommed watching this video...

That was a very well-done ad, for the building and for Chicago. It reiterates that this is a major bet on the residential market, which is now reaching a new level of quality.

I mean, there are Candela apartment buildings in the Gold Coast. Not nearly as many classic pre-war apartments as New York, of course, but they’re there, and built by some of the same architects. That architectural heritage exists in Chicago. It’s not like putting this thing up in Houston or Atlanta.

Here's 1500 N Lake Shore Dr. the Chicago Candela:

You can bet that they looked at that for inspiration.

With respect, if there were a new level of quality here, we'd see this completely clad in limestone, not light yellow concrete. I know, i know, it looks pink at sunset, it's 'nuanced' some say, but so is every building at that charmed 30 minutes or so, when even the Sears tower looks pink. On the majority of days, especially cloudy ones, it will look pretty drab. I'm really looking forward to the day when we see an all stone highrise, one that truly is nuanced and doesn't require mother nature's benevolence to look good.

Yes, I've even been through some amazing prewar apartments down in South Shore. Domed atriums, statuary niches, marble floors...

I'm not sure why that stuff is so tacky in modern McMansions, but so appealing in prewar apartments...

Sweet pic of Bennett.........
