^ I agree. With good facade materials, this one could be very nice.

^ It’s the perfect design for this location, and will look great along with (500 5th, Vanderbilt, Chrysler, etc. we’re getting some nice treats in Midtown.

I could see 500 5th Ave being a good residential conversion candidate.

To get an idea of scale, 520 Fifth Avenue will soar about 300 ft higher than this classic...

Is that the real mock-up or just a similar building facade?

Those cladding samples are incredible, this building's facade will be an instant classic like 111w57th or the Brooklyn Tower. I'm curious to see where this full arch will belong on the building, as it isn't visible in the renderings and seems to be double-width compared to the bay above. I'm guessing it will top the podium levels, which would make for a really grand entrance.

The rounded arch mock up is a portion of what will be the store front windows at street level that line the 5th Ave side of the tower, they are 3 stories in height and about 45' tall.

That particular portion of mockup could be the north most side of the 5th Ave facade or the south facing corner at 43rd and 5th. What we see is only a 3rd of the full width of the window and only about half or so of the height, so they will be quite massive!

^ I've seen the graphic of the lower floors, but I don't remember where, I'll have to find it.

But this tower does have 3 components - office, residential, retail/restaurant.

Floor 1 : Retail, office/residential/restaurant lobbies

Floors 2 - 3 : Club/restaurant

Floors 4 - 28 : Office

Floors 29 - 30 : Mechanical

Floors 31 - 49 : Residential

Floors 50 - 51 : Mechanical

Floors 52 - 68 : Residential

Floor 69 : Lounge, Reading Room, Solarium

Floor 70 : Mechanical

So on those plans, because they are the same on either, that mock up could either be the top right corner facing east or the bottom right corner facing south!

Just a general question - are facade samples/mock-ups typically used in final building construction?

You mean the actual facade piece used in the mockup is used as one of the puzzle pieces in the constructed façade? I'm not positive but I would wager no. I would imagine all the elements in the mockup do not have the structural mechanical elements that the production units likely have.

I could be conpletely wrong though.

Yeah that's what I figured, especially for smaller pieces and simple materials/masonry. I was mostly wondering about larger, more expensive pieces like these windows, the marble at the WTC PAC, etc.

^ Im really not sure. It would be a good question for someone involved in the specific project, specific firm or in the industry. I'm a pretend architect like George Costanza.

Wow, the retail spaces are going to be amazing. This will be a great street-level addition to the Fifth Ave. streetscape.

Too Modular???

The rendering of the whole building with the facade in place looks too precast/modular to me. Maybe larger vertical rectangles than so many smaller ones would help. Just my opinion. Also i dont know how many floors of residential but 2 elevators doesn't seem like enough, long waits. IMO
