Nice.. glad they are helping to revitalize downtown. Btw, anything new on Plaza Tower and the Lindy Boggs Medical Center? I personally hope either Domain Properties or Rome Office take on Plaza.

Lincoln Beach

$25 million funding secured for redeveloping Lincoln Beach: https://www.nola.com/news/politics/l...f2dca99c2.html

Sounds like this more than covers a basic plan to reopen, including stuff like connecting bathrooms to sewerage system and creating safe entry points. There's also a potential farmer's market mentioned. And the city is also hiring a master planner soon for the longer-term redevelopment plan.

NANO Completes Historic Renovation of High School Auditorium

NEW ORLEANS – Frederick A. Douglass High School, located at 3820 St. Claude Avenue in New Orleans, has completed a historic renovation of its main auditorium, which serves as a performance arena for students as well as a civic center for Bywater neighborhood residents. Local architecture and interiors firm NANO LLC is responsible for restoring the auditorium to its original Art Deco-inspired design and creating a more accessible facility with modern amenities. Damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the space remained unused for nearly 18 years until capital improvement and school facility preservation funds enabled the restoration project.

DOTD announces the start of a $44.8 million bridge rehabilitation project on the LA 47 Intracoastal Gulf Outlet Bridge in New Orleans
Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 1:19:38 PM
New Orleans - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that on Monday, April 10, 2023, construction began on the $44.8 million bridge rehabilitation project of the Intracoastal Waterway Gulf Outlet Bridge, also known as the Green Bridge.

The project includes restoring the bridge's concrete and structural steel components, sandblasting, and painting the structural steel. As a tribute to the bridge's storied history, green paint will again adorn the structure as it did on its opening in 1967.

DOTD secured funding for the project as part of President Biden's $1.2 trillion infrastructure plan.

The public should be prepared for delays, as this project will have various lane closures throughout the entirety of the work.
· Throughout the project at least one lane will be maintained in each direction with the exception of an anticipated six full weekend closures.
· The first full weekend closure is anticipated to take place in the fall of 2023.
· Single lane closures will be utilized for the much of the project that will vary between northbound and southbound directions.
· Permanent lane closures for the project will being on Monday, April 10, 2023.
· Residents can stay aware of all lane closures by visiting www.511la.org or by signing up for alerts from the MyDOTD service at www.dotd.la.gov.

Emergency vehicles will have access to this area.

The project is estimated for completion in Spring 2025.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds motorists to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

What started as FunkyUncle webcast may grow into a $160 million Louisiana music museum

https://www.nola.com/louisiana_inspi...10010837a.html

Louisiana, as every music fan knows, is at the heart of American music. So how come it doesn't have a museum to reflect that?

Enter the Louisiana Music and Heritage Experience museum. The brainchild of a group of heavy-hitting industry professionals, the facility is planned to be a $160 million, 120,000-square-foot interactive museum, completely dedicated to all aspects of Louisiana music.

Aiming to celebrate and interpret the state's musical legacy by way of exhibitions, public programs and performances, educational workshops, tours and seminars, this project could fill the museum void in grand style.

"It'll be a worldwide institution on par with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Country Music Hall of Fame (and Museum)," developer and board Chair Chris Beary said.

It may sound ambitious, but the project is a lot more than a pipe dream. It's received backing from politicians on the state and city level, economic leaders, philanthropists, industry professionals and musicians. Its curator, Bob Santelli, is a former executive director of the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles and one of the original curators of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Studies have shown that it's economically viable.

Though the notion of a museum showcasing Louisiana's musical heritage has been floated occasionally throughout the years, the beginnings of the Louisiana Music and Heritage Experience are relatively recent. Beary said the idea came while working with Cristian Duque on FunkyUncle.Live, a weekly webcast that helped New Orleans musicians stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic. ...

The museum is either a great idea or an absolutely terrible one. I don't know which. It just seems like a pretty narrow focus but maybe I'm underestimating how other people see our music.

Louisiana music is revered around the world, so I think it will do well. I would expect the museum to highlight the many forms of music that originated in Louisiana including Zydeco, Jazz, Bounce, New Orleans style Brass Band, etc. It's location by the convention center and the planned River District is also a huge boon to the project.

Agree seems like the location makes perfect sense and would hopefully contribute to success.

Yeah you're definitely underestimating it lol. Especially if it's on the level of a Rock and Roll HOF.

As the article suggests, it's also a super easy line to draw from all of those styles to pretty much all modern-day popular Western music (except maybe country). So, there could easily be a rotation of special exhibits too surrounding current music superstars and their musical and personal connections to Louisiana. If it's done well, this should be able to easily draw in tons of tourists, including repeats.

I mean maybe it'll work. We certainly have a lot more visitors than Cleveland and I don't hear the rock and roll museum being in any trouble.

I’m confused when they said there was a void of museums. Doesn’t the city have the NOMA and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art?

We also have the world war II museum which is a much bigger deal than those other two but I think they meant music museums.
