Not sure how our NDP opposition can function when our “ultra right” is subsidizing airliners though Sask Party NDP coalition lol
I've worked for/with companies in SK that had head offices here but operations elsewhere. I cannot overstate how important airline connections are to executives in these companies. Ipsco moved to Chicago for exactly this reason. Ditto for PCS (although they mostly returned after Brad Wall intervened). Others that this impacted included Wascana Energy, Crown Life, Viterra. I am sure I am missing a few.

Its too bad the taxpayers have to foot the bill for these highly profitable companies.

I don't despise privileged folk. I am privileged. Ticket prices are already too high because of the monopolization of the ticketing and music industry so people like me are the only one's who can afford it. Adding PST doesn't help and it is likely having a negative effect on the tourism industry.

Well, I'm glad you at least recognize government ownership can be effective. But when you have neoliberal, pro-corporate governments in power and in charge of these services, they end up, surprise, ineffective. Either way, our two corporate national airlines need some kind of competition, or else air travel is going to continue to be shit and only available to people like me.
I mean there is Flair airlines and Lynx airlines and Porter in the west now. There's a ton of capacity for flights in Canada at the moment, actually too much to be sustainable. It always comes back to the fact that 1) We're a small and spread out country which already makes having a wide amount of choices difficult and 2)The airport fees and taxes are just too high

Thing can of course change, but as of now WestJet is listing the YXE-MSP flight as 3x a week right through until the end of next April.

Article on the problem with air service into smaller center, they use Saskatoon as an example.

Yes, the Times Colonist is the local Victoria paper.

I for one am not impressed with all of these low cost point to point airlines. What we need is airlines that operate networks with connections. Especially for those of us that live in smaller cities. Getting Porter into both Victoria, Saskatoon and Regina would be fantastic.

Regina airport to hit 93% of pre-pandemic flight capacity this summer

According to the airport authority, Air Canada will be adding 2,800 more seats to Toronto and more than 1,000 additional seats to Vancouver this summer. That airline is also bringing back daily flights to Montreal starting in June, the authority added.

WestJet will also be adding 8,000 more seats this summer between Regina and Calgary, the authority said, with as many as seven flights a day between the two centres. WestJet will also be flying to Edmonton twice a day, to Vancouver and Toronto daily, and to Winnipeg five times each week.

In addition, the airport authority said WestJet will also be starting non-stop flights to Kelowna on Sundays and Thursdays starting next month.

The Canadian flights are nice. But the Minneapolis and Chicago flights are crucial for business.

I don't normally like government subsidizing the wealthy, but our lack of flights to the aforementioned American cities is hurting our ability to grow.

Ideally, we would have flights to Houston and DC too, but those are just plain less feasible than Minneapolis and Chicago.

I'm flying WestJet YVR-YYC-YQR this Thursday afternoon / evening. Are we expecting significant travel disruptions in the way of delays or cancellations stemming from the strike?

Flair appears to have quietly canceled all Calgary-Saskatoon flights already. Anyone have any info?

Starting Nov 5th, Air Canada’s dismal service to YQR continues…

2 flights per day to Toronto (A319-100 Rouge x2) = 272 seats total per day
3 flights per day to Vancouver (CRJ900 Express x 3) = 228 seats total per day

Porter can’t come soon enough.

Whoever approved that service brochure to be published needs to go. The fleet is not updated. They still show having E190 aircraft which have been gone for a couple of years now. They show Rouge having B767 aircraft which haven't flown with Rouge since the early days of the pandemic. They don't show the A220 aircraft which have been with the fleet for a number of years already. And I'm sure some of the numbers of aircraft are different as well.

Service to Regina is pathetic and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. Even Westjet has reduced service to everywhere except Calgary. Yet the planes are full from what I understand.
