Nice Pitt! and we got what must be the final Crane Jump this weekend. I see 5 sections ready to go up!
In other news, there was an potentially serious incident at the site on Thursday evening...
I went over to the riverwalk side to enjoy a bite to eat while enjoying a nice view of our favorite new building from across the water.... but there was a pretty dark storm front coming in so I figured I should head back before getting soaked.
Walking back across the bridge, the wind picked up BIG TIME, sand whipping up from the dirt construction lot but then random boards started flying off of the high floors of WPE and into the river and all over the place. I didn't see any wood come directly my way but I had started moving quickly to get under the protected area.. by the larger WPE sign if you know the bridge....at the same time an older couple crossed the street to go south on the west side of the bridge but then big chunk of wood landed 5 feet in front of them... probably 15 feet from me. It was loud.... like a 2x4 attached to a sheet of plywood about 8 feet long and 2 feet wide. I told a guy, from walsh (i think), on the other side where they were doing some work and they had no idea what was happening on the south side of the building.
It was a fast moving front and the whole episode only lasted a couple of minutes. A vehicle also got hit and had damage. The fire marshals came out and were there for hours walking around making calls. The next morning there was a longer group meeting and a city Inspector was there.
Some of the flying wood also shattered the 2x4 railings on the 2nd level balcony which all had to be repaired. I'm not entirely sure where the wood came from but you can see boards that are attached to plywood and they are used as shims with the floor forms when they pour the concrete slabs for each floor. I could see a big wind prying some of those loose. Or they were loose boards laying around the ~45th amenity floors. Anyone have any idea?
Regardless, fortunately, no one was hurt.
