MTS/Shaw/ Electrical contractors could only send male installation techs when my company was in there (Moved out Oct 1980) as access to the utility closets were through the mens washroom.

For the old school local SSPers, Union Bank Tower was a constant source of discussion and hand-wringing here for the years that it was practically abandoned. It was a prominent symbol of decline given that it was empty despite its historical importance and physical prominence. Its future was in some doubt, especially after the neighbouring Leland Hotel burned down in the mid/late 1990s.

Having Red River College step in and renovate it, and bring it back to life, was seen as a significant step for the Exchange District and downtown Winnipeg as a whole.

CANADA’S FIRST SKYSCRAPER…..not “western canada’s

Came across this video with tons of 1960s footage of Winnipeg. Loved seeing dt when it was still full of old houses. Also nice to see Main street prior to all the demolition for the museum and concert hall.
