b2 floor pour coming up

I'm going to predict that they start a new pour monday or tuesday at the latest for the b2 floor. It's re-bar looks about finished

B2 and b2

B3 is nearly fitted out, with only half of the subway box left to cover. b2 will be 45 percent complete by monday when they pour concrete for the rest of the completed rebar.

This is a great and fitting memorial, but I only have two criticisms:

1. The direction in which the water flows. It is constantly flowing down in the waterfall, which to me is negative. There also shouldn't be that big square hole in the center which is so eerie and depressing with the water going down into it. There should be several fountains shooting water upward, representing resilience and new life, alongside the downward flowing waterfalls. If I had my way there would have been many jets of water arranged in a square replacing that square hole. That would have been much less depressing.

2. The color of the walls of the pool. Grayish-black is simply too depressing, once again. This will one day be a public plaza fully open for anyone to walk through it (once construction there is completely over), and no one will want to walk through simply because of the depressing atmosphere the memorial brings. To me the walls should be a lighter gray leaning towards white.

I know nothing can change now. I just wanted to put my thoughts out there.

Maybe some confetti and streamers also?

Thank you for the productive, non-sarcastic and non-condescending reply, Zerton. I wasn't saying we should turn the place into an amusement park. This is not just supposed to be a memorial, but also a restful, contemplative public space. I was there just a couple of months ago on a sunny day and it still had the most depressing atmosphere I've ever felt in a place. Not a very good area to take a restful stroll in on a random day.

Looks like work is progressing fast on the underground vehicle security center portion of the site.

Hey is there a thread for the Vehicle Security Center? If not, why don't we start one?

Is there really anything that interesting about the VSC? I doubt anyone will want to talk about something so unspectacular.

You can discuss it here, its really part of the memorial. The site was not a part of the original WTC site, so a new tub was built there. But if you look at recent photos, you can see construction of the VSC well underway.

Meanwhile, the Memorial is already becoming a part of the New York that we "know"...check the vid.

'Blue Bloods' on CBS first to film at New York City 911 Memorial

Quote:
The memories of 911 shine brightly on Friday's episode of Blue Bloods as one special scene was shot in a place no scripted drama has ever filmed in before at New York City's 911 Memorial.

Tom Selleck says, "What we're shooting tonight in this hallowed place is a, the scene where Frank Regan, the New York City Police Commissioner comes visit the site of the attack and Ground Zero It comes at a kind of an emotional moment for him. It's an emotional moment for us. It's kind of a special privilege to be here. That they gave us permission we consider an honor."

b3 concrete pour today

They are pouring another section of b3, i'm expecting them to extend the scaffold out on that section almost immediately, since b2 is waiting on more of b3 to be finished.

b3's scaffold is just about complete for the whole floor Very EXCITING!!
