Im trying really hard to like the design, but I don't. If they don't maximize the height on that last lot, I will be very disappointed.

Was HR Giger involved in this in any way?

Yay, another Miami supertall with a 100% chance of happening. Just like the previous two dozen that went nowhere

Brickell church sale holdout could scuttle $240M deal with 13th Floor, Key International

Quote:
Organization that oversees Presbyterian churches in Florida will consider approving or voiding deal

Arnaud Karsenti’s 13th Floor Investments’ plan for an 80-story condominium tower on a church parking lot and school – the last developable waterfront Brickell site – could be scuttled by a congregation member who opposes the deal.

13th Floor and the Ardid family’s Key International, both based in Miami, want to purchase 2.2 acres that are part of the First Miami Presbyterian Church’s property at 609 Brickell Avenue, according to the Miami Herald. The church stands to gain $240 million.

First Miami Presbyterian member Cary Tolley’s complaint that seeks to block the deal gained ground when the Synod of the South Atlantic Permanent Judicial Commission voted 6-2 that he has legal standing, or the right to pursue his filing, the Herald reported.

The Synod of the South Atlantic Permanent Judicial Commission, which oversees Presbyterian churches in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina and also issues judicial decisions concerning the churches, voted on the Brickell issue nearly two weeks ago. Next, it will hold an in-person hearing in the spring in Atlanta on whether to void an October 2021 vote by the majority of church members in favor of the deal.

Tolley filed his complaint with the body that oversees the church, the Presbytery of Tropical Florida, soon after the approval vote of the sale. He is pushing for another congregation vote and wants the developers to reduce the condo size, the Herald reported.

It will be a crime if they vote against this. I love Miami, but most of its new towers are junk. This, by contrast, would be amazing.

Lobbyist For Icon Brickell Registers Over Church Property Where Supertall Tower Planned

Quote:
Icon Brickell Condominium No. Two Association, Inc has hired a lobbyist to represent them over the church property next door where a supertall residential tower is being planned, according to a City of Miami database.

The lobbyist is from Corcoran Partners and represents the association in regard to “development of all land currently designated as parking behind the First Presbyterian Church at 609 Brickell Ave,” according to the July 11 registration.

The First Miami Presbyterian Church approved a $240 million deal last year with developers 13th Floor Investments and Key International to redevelop a surface parking lot and school with a potential 80-story supertall tower.

One church member however had filed a complaint with the religious body that oversees the institution. As of February, a settlement was being considered.

Given this hot market, the fact its residential will further the odds.

Seattle already and soon Austin will have far better and denser skylines than some of these. Philly and Atlanta, too.

I'm past the point of bored waiting for one of these Miami supertall proposals to get vertical.

A supertall is planned to break ground this month in Miami.

I feel like that statement has been made before. I'll be happy when the Waldorf-Astoria is above ground. Wake me up when they finally do that.

Waldorf-Astoria has essentially broken ground and is steaming ahead. As to which might be the second super tall out of the ground, there are a handful of candidates, but I suspect Citadel is the best bet.

Miami’s first super tall, the Waldorf-Astoria, is essentially underway. And just to give you an overall impression of the upward trajectory, the 902 ft Okan Tower is u/c and the 950 ft Cipriani has been granted a foundation permit.
