Imagine living in Manhattan and being anti-tower... Like living in Texas and hating beef!

That eastern tower is 15' (1/6) skinnier than 432 Park Ave, and 200' taller. It's absurd even as a strawman.

432 Park isn't particularly skinny, though. In fact, 432 has the largest footprint of the current big three Billionaire's Row supertalls (432, CPT and Steinway - I'm excluding the shorter One57 and 53w53).

If the ABC HQ towers were built to such dimensions, it wouldn't be surprising.

Obviously Extell will use the footprint of the site more efficiently than the ridiculous build out scenario schemed up as a scare tactic by NIMBYs. I expect much more retail and possibly an office building on the site. There is too much square footage to work with for it not to be a mixed use project. This won't be a 2-matchstick-towered luxury condo development.

As long as the luxury market stays hot I don't see why they wouldn't.
If only they could make bigger towers, the residential FAR is way too restrictive. Brooklyn Tower despite being 400 feet shorter than Steinway has hundreds more units.

The skyscraper terrorist organization Landmark West strikes first, seeking to ban potential supertalls anywhere on site.

While you may or may not agree with the issue of tall buildings, the problem is that the lesser affluent people of the Lower East Side didn’t get this benefit, while the Upper East Side (Sutton Place) did. And now the folks on the Upper West Side seeks to get it as well. The LESiders should be raising holy hell, not about the buildings, but this blatant double standard for the more affluent people uptown. It’s disgraceful.

ABC News staffers on edge as network prepares to move to NYC ‘no man’s land’ Hudson Square

By Carlos Greer
Feb. 16, 2024

Quote:
ABC News’ long-awaited move to Hudson Square in downtown Manhattan — or “no man’s land,” as some staffers are calling it — is causing consternation among the ranks.

“It’s all a chaotic mess. People are still in the dark about the move,” a source told Page Six.

Some insiders believe that crown jewel “Good Morning America” will remain shooting in Times Square “indefinitely” — despite the company’s insistence the show will also head downtown.

One source claims ABC has even extended its “GMA” lease at Times Square Studios, and “is definitely staying.”

Another source told us they can’t see ABC abandoning its prime Times Square real estate when third-place “CBS Mornings” is gaining traction on the network’s top morning show.
Quote:
Apart from “GMA,” others at the network are concerned there won’t be enough office space at the new facility.

“There’s not enough room. They’re creating a space with no offices. It’s a massive problem that’s ongoing. They took an entire floor away from the news division,” a source familiar with the planned move said.

We also hear that parent company Disney didn’t factor in the location when it come to breaking news. “What happens when they get stuck in [Holland Tunnel traffic]? They made this decision without having intense conversations with all the parties involved to see exactly what’s needed,” the source claimed.
Quote:
Talk shows like “The View,” “Tamron Hall” and “Live with Kelly and Mark” are expected to make their move over the summer, while on hiatus. They’re all expected to have big fall premieres in the new space, but shows such as “GMA,” “World News Tonight” and New York’s local news, ABC 7, are believed to be transitioning in spring 2025, after the election.

We hear those shows will allegedly shoot in studios inside the new building’s basement, above the noisy subway.

Employees are hopeful they will have more answers now that veteran Disney exec Debra OConnell is taking over for news president, Kim Godwin, to helm a new news division.
Quote:
Whatever the case, the move can’t come fast enough for some employees who are ready to move on from the network’s mice infested headquarters on West 66th Street.

Disney sold the Upper West Side building in 2018 and is renting it back as they await the move.

One source described the building as smelling like an “absolute sewer,” with “barely working toilets.” “Nothing works. It’s disgusting,” they said.

ABC News spokesperson Jeannie Kedas did not get back to us.

That's a really dumb article. Hudson Square is basically SoHo. Very central and hardly "no man's land".

The new office is in a super-prime location. Many of their on-air personalities will likely walk to work.

Yeah there’s worse problems in the world than to be working for a major news company in a state of the art building in Manhattan.

What specific challenges are ABC News staffers facing regarding the relocation to Hudson Square, and can you provide more details on the concerns related to office space and logistical issues?

Agreed. Imo it's actually a much better location.

Google Opens New Office in Hudson Square, Disney to Follow ...Somewhat Reluctantly
Google is moving into its new glass tower office building at the historic St. John’s Terminal in downtown’s Hudson Square. The search engine giant will soon be joined by Walt Disney’s new NYC HQ later this year–although reports say some employees in Disney’s ABC television unit are skittish about a move so far downtown.

Quote:
Hudson Square, a neighborhood that has become a hotspot for media and tech companies, is now home to a new 12-story Google office building that will open its doors to up 3,000 employees on Feb. 26

The search engine giant will soon be joined by the Walt Disney Company, which is expected to move many of its ABC Studios employees downtown as soon as its new 1.2 million sq. ft. NYC HQ is completed later this year. The 22-story building is expected to house film and production studios, including the space where “The View” is filmed. Although Disney signed a 99 year lease valued at $650 million for the build-to-suit glass tower, a recent report say that some employees at ABC Studios are reluctant to make the move.

Google’s offices are located at the historic St. John’s Terminal on Washington St., and can reportedly house up to 3,000 out of the 12,000 NYC workers employed by Alphabet, Google’s parent company. Google bought the site in 2022 for $2.1 billion.

Google will now have 6 million sq. ft. of office space in Manhattan, according to a report in Crain’s New York Business. But according to the NYS Department of Labor, Google has laid off over 1,100 local workers over the past year. This includes 887 last April, followed by another layoff of 225 announced in January.
Quote:
When the plan to move Disney-owned ABC studios on the UWS to the downtown neighborhood was first announced in 2018, Disney CEO Robert Iger said that “the Hudson Square district is rapidly becoming a dynamic, innovative hub for media, technology and other creative businesses.”

A recent report in Page Six, however, claims that staffers on ABC’s morning show “Good Morning America” are loath to give up their ground floor Times Square lease. One insider gossiped that they are worried that GMA’s new studio in Hudson Square “may be in the basement! The talent and producers are not happy about it [and] it leaves advantage to Today”–the rival NBC morning show that broadcasts from studio 1A on the concourse in Rockefeller Center.

For the short term, GMA appears to have extended its lease to stay in Times Square. The Mouse House already sold off its ABC studios on the UWS to the same developer, Silverstein Partners, that built the World Trade Center, and is finishing Disney’s new NY HQ in Hudson Yards. The new building is going to feature a 338 ft tall tower, a public food court on the ground floor, and several landscaped terraces.
