So much materials and containers staged on site. Hope old man winter is kind this year and doesn't dump a foot of snow anytime soon.

Does anybody know why there might be so many seemingly redundant (retaining?) walls?

Thats a good question. Maybe something to do with the water table and hydrostatic pressure and making sure that the sublevels are bone dry? Im trying to remember if the MSI garage and expansion had the same construction... Anyone recall?

Construction halted after noose found at Obama Presidential Center
A $100,000 reward has been offered for help in finding those responsible. Mayor Lori Lightfoot called the act ‘disturbing.’ Gov. J.B. Pritzker condemned the incident

By Emmanuel Camarillo
Updated Nov 10, 2022, 6:51pm CST

A noose was discovered at the site of the Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park on Thursday morning, according to the group overseeing the center’s construction.

“This morning, we were informed that an act of hate was discovered at the project site,” Lakeside Alliance said in a statement, adding that operations on the site have been suspended. “We reported the incident to the police and will provide any assistance required to identify those responsible.”

The circumstances of the discovery weren’t clear. Chicago police said they were investigating the incident but didn’t release details.

This site appears to be one of the securest I've seen with camera's at every turn. Probably an inside job. Hope they catch the loser. Anyway, they are suspending construction for that?? Pfft! Throw it in the trash and carry on.

sad, but lets be honest, this might be another croony, smollett like case. Couple days ago everybody was in uproar about papers of a noose being found all over Hyde Park. Turns out it was some suburban black girl promoting her play. Either way, this is nothing to stop construction for, move the fuck on and lets finish this

We don't know this^ for sure. And until we know otherwise its best not to speculate or draw conclusions until they have completed their investigation. Moreover, the 'noose' has been used to take hundreds if not thousands of African American lives through the years -- killed them DEAD for virtually no other reason than the color of their skin. If you or your race suffered such a grave injustice and one of the symbols of that injustice brought to the fore, it might not be so easy for you to be so dismissive and "move the fuck on".

This... spoken from experience. I am an African American attorney... whose Great Uncle was lynched. A monument to him rests here: https://museumandmemorial.eji.org/memorial

"Think" before you write.

That said, I am sure the stoppage is not permanent and is to make sure that security is tightened/protocols implemented so that this does not happen again and to hopefully catch the perpetrator - no matter which race (Black, White, etc.) the perpetrator may be.

We all want work to resume.... and I am quite sure that it will at the proper time.

I can think of tons of reasons why you might use rope on a construction site. How do we even know this was a racist threat and not just a worker who tied a loop on a piece of rope in order to do his job?

Why would they stop construction and offer a $100k reward over a piece of rope? Whoever did this obviously got what they wanted (attention). Incredibly stupid reaction.

Construction continues. Still mostly on the expansive structures and not the main building.

It's hard to take photos. It's a horizontal project instead of a vertical one, it has tall fences and the security guards shoo people away.

I did check out the roadwork though. The new underpass below Hayes at LSD is well underway and they are widening the LSD bridges over the Jackson Park Lagoon. They're also widening Stony Island (you can see this in Klipp's photo).
