hkskyline's 2015 in Luoyang, China

Luoyang is rich in history and is only a short 40-minute ride by high-speed train from Zhengzhou.

The star attraction are the Longmen Grottoes, which are an impressive collection of Buddhist art from the Northern Wei and Tang Dynasties (4-10th centuries).

The local museums offer a wealth of artifacts dug from the area. Luoyang was a major historical capital from ancient days.

Similar to Zhengzhou, not much of its ancient history remains to be seen on the streets. This gate and the pedestrian street behind it has been "revitalized". It is worth visiting for the street food (view only) and a nice break between the museum and the next temple.

how interesting to see this historic area -- and will ya look at that curved bldg in the last shot? very unique. how was the street food?

Other larger Chinese cities have a bigger assortment of street food. This one was relatively tiny. I wouldn't try it though for sanitary reasons!
