One Yonge and The One -- two supertalls under construction at the same time! Has that ever happened before in the Western Hemisphere outside of NYC? I guess maybe the Aon Center and The Sears Tower were under construction simultaneously? Maybe Houston's two tallest?

Yeah you're right about both cities.

Chicago: Sears/Willis completed 1974 and Aon completed 1973
Houston: 600 Travis completed 1982 and Wells Fargo completed 1983

*Chicago just misses doing it again with Vista (365m) and 1 Chicago Square (295m) both under construction.

Phase One “channel” cladding looking good. SkyTower site boring/shoring (not visible) well-underway.

mburrrrr

While a bit “puny" compared to SkyTower and the (beautifully rendered Phase 3)… Phase One @ 217m deserves some respect.

The Phase One south elevation render below shows a giant head to toe balcony ”swoop", presumably with two different types of balcony glass (or glass plus another material). Could be interesting.

More interested in the fountain (which we won't be getting) than the Phase 1 condo.

The fountain has been cancelled? Since when?

I'm assuming that it's simply a place holder for a park that includes a water feature. The chances that we're getting a 15 storey high 4-5 tiered Victorian fountain, circular path of those dimensions, and arc shaped fountain pools bordering it are next to nil. That circular arc of flower beds and trees with reddish foliage won't be realized either. When I see renderings like that all I take to be true is that we might get grass and there might be a water feature. The rest is a mirage.

if they build what they're showing us I'll be pleasantly surprised.

SkyTower (actual height - 312.5m) and Prestige (Phase 1 - 217m)

SkyTower will rise in the foreground (right centre), Phase 1 rising behind.

Four of the top 10 ten tallest buildings under-construction in Canada ... in 2 blocks. Sugar Wharf (230m + 218m) in the foreground, and the One Yonge site behind (SkyTower - 312.5m shoring and Prestige rising - 217m).

I know most people have expressed disdain for the minimalist design of the two taller Sugar Wharf towers (a.k.a. shorter WTC Twin Towers), but I'm fond of them and hope they start rising soon. What chance is there for that, given that the tallest 1 Yonge tower has gotten underway?

Don't know anyone who has inside info about a phase 2 start, but while we wait they had better increase the 299 metre "teaser" tower by 1 lousy metre so we can talk 3 supertalls under construction at the same time .

The amount of construction activity and proposed new projects is COVID-astonishing.

Phase 2 has to wait until the LCBO can move into the new office building and out of their current headquarters. So not for a little longer, yet.

Normally I'm a bit of a height junkie as well, but I'll take these as is.

Some render views via screenshots featuring SkyTower (u/c), office component phases and neighbouring Sugar Wharf - all from this WaterfrontToronto report.

One Yonge office component (plus 3 residential phases, 2 u/c) along with neighbouring Sugar Wharf phases (includes the one metre shy wannabe super-tall @ 299m ;-).

Office podium.

Pinnacle One Yonge Street

A wider look at the site including the location of the next phase of Sugar Wharf.

Right of centre is Phase 1 “Prestige” rising @ 217m, along with Phase 2 excavation for super-tall “SkyTower” @ 312.5m underway immediately to the right of Phase 1. The large blank wall of concrete (Phase 1 podium) will be joined by the Phase 3 podium and tower (264m), which will rise in front of the wall.

The yellow/brown low-rise LCBO buildings left of centre in the pic, will host the next phase of Sugar Wharf, including the tallest of the development which is just a metre shy of super-tall creds @ 299m.

Site-plan with first 3 phases - note: top of the site-plan is north, while the photo above is looking south.

Pinnacle One Yonge

Just a cool shot of the Phase One crane (centre of pic - Prestige @ 217m) sneaking into the Southcore skyline.

IMO this is the first time (in Toronto) that Pinnacle has cut a cheque for superb (as rendered?) glazing/cladding. Though Prestige has a simpler built-form than SkyTower and the Phase 3 tower,
the great cladding and balcony glass magic promised (render below) will add up to one of the best looking new condos downtown. :-)
