Thanks Grump!

I'm hoping that bump out in the formwork near the crane is just for their access and not where the skywalk is going (as we surmised previously).

I believe the renders show a portion of the second floor extending that far to the front of the building. It's hard to tell though.

I think this is where it would show in the render. So, it's part of the entryway then?

Yaa. Nice. I will stop beating the skywalk drum. Will give credit here. The actual build for TNS vs the renders are almost exact. I'd expect the same for Wawanesa.

^ they must have a different setup planned for when it gets really cold. They will need some proper hoarding structures built, as they won't be able to get away with leaving a large section of freshly placed slab concrete exposed like that when it gets minus double digits. It's gotta be maintained above +10C for the duration of the cure.

Even now, that is against Code, since the temperature is below +5C.

Well...I do believe that is how you "plop up" a building.

Sometimes you just gotta get shit done!

Even plopping up a building requires at least an attempt to adhere to Code.

Especially 23-storey concrete buildings....

Concrete in Winter

I recall when they were building TNS 1&2 they were pouring the floor slabs fully exposed to the elements to -30C. I thought it was very strange that they were able to do that at the time. Perhaps they are running glycol through all that conduit to keep it warm?

^ running sacrificial glycol heating lines is typical - but you also need to fully cover the area to protect all of the exposed surfaces.

Basically there should be some sort of insulated tarped structure put over top of the slab immediately after the concrete placement, with supplementary heat provided (either glycol lines or other type of heater).

They will use concrete with accelerator to set up faster, there is lots of heat in the concrete and lots of heat from below, once slab is troweled smooth they will cover it

^ still run the risk on the exposed surfaces, especially in the dead of winter here.

I am hopeful they know what they are doing, and have a different approach for when it gets real cold, but if I was the structural consultant on that job - and saw that picture, there would be phone calls immediately to the contractor to discuss.

Photos of recently placed, unprotected concrete with snow on the ground become some the best "gotcha" evidence I use for insurance and litigation projects involving winter construction.

Apologies for the delay. ;-)
Was out of country rolling over the freeways of MAGA-land and then tied up with a project when I got back.

It's starting to bulk up!

Thanks Grump!

Wow, these guys are good. TNS towers grow so quickly compared to any other developments I've seen in the city.
