Nation’s top Downtown living experience

Dallas named nation’s top downtown living experience by study.
Here’s the list:

Dallas has to have one of the worst environments for downtown residential living. Among the biggest U.S. cities, I'm trying to think which would be worse. Maybe Phoenix?

Apparently it's just about prices and retail (which should be high in any case as it's a CBD). It seems a very simplistic approach for "urban living".

Those wide streets, lots of parking lots. It doesn't look nice.

Something called StorageCafe did the study. If you look at the source link, it says "Self storage was also included in our analysis as it’s a service frequently used by apartment dwellers as they move or afterwards as they seek to maximize living space." https://www.storagecafe.com/blog/bes...wntown-living/

Maybe downtown Dallas has a shitload of self-storage places?

I'm not sure why EV charging stations would be a metric for an ideal downtown living experience.

I would think things like walk, bike scores, and public transit scores would be more important.

Quote:
The study, conducted by StorageCafe, took the 30 most-populous cities and matched the zip codes for each (treating each New York City borough as an independent city), then ranked them based on the following criteria and their respective weightings:
Rent-to-income ratio — 12.5% (Yardi Matrix, U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey: 2021)
Total number of apartment units — 12.5% (Yardi Matrix)
Apartment living space/person — 7.5% (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey: 2020)
Percent of apartments located in green properties — 7.5% (Yardi Matrix)
Percent of fitness centers within rental complexes — 7.5% (Yardi Matrix)
Percent of apartments located in luxury properties — 7.5% (Yardi Matrix)
Crime rate — 10% (Federal Bureau of Investigation)
Cost of groceries — 7.5% (Council for Community and Economic Research)
Electric vehicle public charging stations — 5% (U.S. Department of Energy)
Restaurants/1,000 people — 5% (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns by Industry: 2020)
Theaters/1,000 people — 5% (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns by Industry: 2020)
Retail stores/1,000 people — 5% (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns by Industry: 2020)
Percent of educated population (holding a BA degree or higher) — 7.5% (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey: 2021)

^ a "downtown living" ranking wth absolutely zero metrics included for transit, walking, or biking?

But then they include something completely irrelevant like the # of EV charging stations???

What in the high holy fuck?

Sniff test = FAIL!

I like the "% of fitness centers within rental complexes". Obviously a city with an organic core wouldn't be characterized by "rental complexes" and those "complexes" wouldn't have fitness centers if they were small-scale and/or built in previous eras. Some exurban edge city would score much better than central Paris.

Exactly. That’s a definition of a car-centric development, a suburb complex, and not urban living. In dense cities will do that outside your “fortress-tower” with a shopping mall attached.

So maybe the meant that Downtown Dallas has the best “suburban living”. They might have a case.

As soon as I saw somebody with the screen name "DFW" start a thread with this title, I knew the city with "top downtown living" score was going to be Dallas.

In other words, Chicago ranks at the top for affordable, new construction, downtown living

And Texas ranks for the car stuff.

1. Dallas, Texas.
2. Austin, Texas.
3. Chicago, Illinois.
4. Boston, Massachusetts.
5. Seattle, Washington.
6. Nashville, Tennessee.
7. Houston, Texas.
8. Columbus, Ohio.
9.San Diego, California.
10. Phoenix, Arizona.

IDK what y'all are talking about. We all know Dallas is the London of North America. Manhattan is second rate by comparison.

100% truth, fact, legitimate. Totally not spam made by some grift website to get their name in front of your face.

lol... I wouldn't say Dallas is the best, but it does have a lot of potential and room for growth. The comparison to Phoenix is a bit much though... there's a lot that DT Dallas offers that other cities don't have.
