I think they're all great, the skyscrapers that make the skyline what it is, and sets it apart from everywhere else. We are very lucky.

One Vanderbilt’s observation deck named the Summit, will have two glass-floored overhangs

DECEMBER 11, 2019
BY DANA SCHULZ

Quote:
Now known as the Summit, the 59th-floor deck will have “two step-out, glass floor ledges that overhang Madison Avenue.” Also on this floor will be food and beverage options, and on the floor below will be an “‘infinity room’ with 40-foot-high ceilings.” The building is set to open in August 2020, while the Summit will begin welcoming guests (who will pay $35 for the experience) at the end of 2021.

At 1,401 feet, One Vanderbilt is Midtown’s tallest office building and the fourth-tallest skyscraper in New York City (following One World Trade at 1,776 feet, Central Park Tower at 1,550 feet, and 111 West 57th Street at 1,428 feet).

SL Green reveals ribbon-cutting date for One Vanderbilt

By Lois Weiss
December 10, 2019

Quote:
The ribbon-cutting for One Vanderbilt will take place Aug. 4, 2020, and right now it has 533,657 square feet left to rent in the 1.67 million-square-foot building that towers above and is connected to Grand Central Terminal.

The presentation revealed that office rents are ranging from $125 to $300 per square foot, with nine to 12 months of free rent and a tenant- improvement allowance of $95 to $105 per square foot.

SL Green also has formed its own joint venture with co-owner Hines to manage the 71,938-square-foot observatory that will be on the 57th through 59th floors and is over 1,000 feet high.

Now known as the Summit, it will have two step-out, glass floor ledges that overhang Madison Avenue. The 58th floor will have an “infinity room” with 40-foot-high ceilings, while an outdoor terrace on the 59th floor will offer food and beverages. Snøhetta is designing, while Kenzo Digital is creating an immersive experience. The observatory won’t open until the end of 2021, and by 2024...

So this means we'll be seeing a bit of cantilevering here, too, I would imagine.

Sounds like it. We haven't seen any renderings of it, but it'll be another feature to make this deck competitive with all of the other decks.

The construction of 270 Park will get underway early 2021. This deck will offer a better view of the rising tower than 30 Rock, and will be one of two observation decks in Midtown overlooking Madison Avenue if Tower Fifth gets built. Good times.

It would appear that they're deconstructing the spire. The top 11 or so segments have been removed via the tower crane as of now.

Deconstructing the spire...!?! Why would they take it down?? Unless they're expecting a massive hurricane or winter storm to toss it around, I'm sure the spire's pretty secure where it's at

On a side note, anyone know if this tower will be lit similar to the Bank of America building at night? Besides the lit-up crown, I'm wondering if the terracotta would be lit in any way at night!

BCP on Yimby Forums, "Dude on reddit who said he was spouse of a KPF person said this would be happening a few months ago when it was first installed. He said they needed to get the crane to reach the other side for facade installation"

Everytime I see this handsome tower rising, it makes me think what Philadelphia could've had with the American Commerce Center: a tower that could've been the social, commercial, transit and economic nexus of a city!

I just hope 270 doesn't ruin the vibe. I don't think it will, but I'm watching.

How frequently does the spire's lighting alternate between white and blue? Any additional colors?

It's not on any particular schedule as of yet. I'm sure it'll be the same as all the other lit spires and antennas around town.

Put it up. Take it down. Put it back up. Take it back down. The best part about working at 66 Hudson was being able to leave and come back to One Vanderbilt for the day. Def a lot colder at 1400 feet though.
