The quality of the materials used, especially the glass, is what mainly separates this building from your ‘A’ typical glass box. Even though that’s what this tower truly is, it presents itself in the purest way possible with class, sleekness and style. It’s a bold tower.

Why did the Old 7 WTC collapse while the other buildings around the WTC stood eventhough most were just as close to the site from the looks of it?

The north tower left a huge gash in the southern face of the original 7WTC when it collapsed. No one knows exactly what happened after that.

The building was constructed over a Con Edison electrical substation that had been in place since the mid 60's. The substation had caissons that would allow for a building of a smaller height to be constructed above later. When WTC 7 was build additional caissons were used along with the original ones to bear the load of the much larger building. Transfer trusses (lateral structural members rather than vertical structural members) were constructed to distribute the vertical load around the underlying substation to the caissons below. Speculation is that the diesel fuel used for backup power generation caught fire after the collapse of the twin towers (and the before mentioned gash and damage) and compromised the unusual lateral transfer trusses leading to the collapse. However there are many theories but I tend to go along with the sound engineering story (being an engineer myself). I do, however, love the brutal graphite industrial base of the new tower. The old did nothing for me.

Given the circumstances, I'd still rather have the old POS...

Wow, that's just nasty. Although the new 7 WTC is a lovely thing, would we have the old one back, if it meant we didn't have to suffer the trauma that was 9/11?

7WTC is one handsome building, just wish there were about 100 or so more feet on it
