BUENOS AIRES | Polo Audiovisual | 1,100 FT | FLOORS (Tallest in Latin America)

Quote:
The building will be 335 meters tall and is expected to become the headquarters of the biggest film-making studios in Latin America.
The President of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, announced Wednesday the construction of the so-called “Polo Audiovisual,” a 335 meter-tall building, the tallest of Latin America and taller than the Chrysler Building in New York.

After a two year tender, the project was finally assigned to Riva company. The investment will be USD$295 million. The construction will begin this November and is expected to be finished within five years.

“This means that the following government has to commit itself to continue with the project,” said Fernandez.

The President also said that the building will be a center of audiovisual and cinematographic production, a concert hall for 15,000 people, an hotel, and a museum of Visual Arts. It will be almost half the size of Central Park, in New York, 1.25 miles.

“The building will become a symbol of Buenos Aires, our capital, and we believe that for its originality, creativity, its symbolical colors, it will become a symbol for all the Argentinians."

Literally every time I see the Empire State Building on a diagram it's drawn as 381 meters to the pinnacle... morons.

Anyway this building is super cool, hopefully it actually happens

Why pick on the ESB? All the other towers with spires in that graph are also measured that way.

Its more of a ego boost. Cristina Fernandez mentioned it at the conference and its been in the tabloids. Always comparing it to stuff going up in NY. They do it to prove a point that this will be tall and standout amongst competition abroad. Also just making it clear that if the text sounds odd, its because of google translate.

There are some nice diagrams and info for this project, but its in Spanish. If forumers wish to see it, I can post it. I can read it, but idk about others but again, let me know if you want to see them.

No I was saying they measured it wrong... the ESB is 381 meters to the roof not top of the pinnacle. It's barely shorter than Petronas. The pinnacle of ESB is 443 meters.

As for the building it kind of reminds me of skyrise Miami... hope BsAs can pull it off

Cancelled

The Buenos Aires "Central Park" that Cristina Fernández de Kirchner once dreamed of will not come true. Five years after the first announcement of the construction of an audiovisual pole on Demarchi Island, which included a pharaonic building 335 meters high and a stadium for 15,000 people, the project was buried by a presidential decree redirecting the management of lands and authorizes the realization of other real estate and urban development projects.

I love BA, but it has obscene inflation and dramatic financial problems. I couldn’t see that there was a demand for this.
